And that will bring the 2024 NYS Canal System NAVIGATION Season
to an end, bringing on the much anticipated 2024-25 NYS Canal
System MAINTENANCE Season.
That means continued work on Canal Locks, Guard Gates, and
Earthen Embankment Integrity. And most likely NYPA will be
looking at the "electrical system" running the Canal System as
the #1 issue in 2024, that shutdown or slowed canal operations,
seemed to be related to "loss of power" or other "electrical"
problems.
October 17, 2024 is the start of Dam Clearing Season along the
Erie, have to get it all cleared and like new for it's upcoming
200th Birthday Bash.

Re: CANAL CLOSING Brings MORE Canal System Repairs

It's OFFICIAL, NYS Canal Corporation's Closing Announcement has
also ushered in a slew of "canal maintenance" notices like this
one in Palmyra. This will be full 3 month closure of a lenghty
section (~5 miles) of the ECT near Lock 29/30. That's where the
last embankment breach occured a few years back and delayed the
Canal Sping Opening by a few weeks.

It's just a matter of time & resources before Earthen Canal
Embankments float to the top of the "repair list" with NYS, and
in just about 8 weeks the Erie will be EMPTY once again, making
way for those projects that need the NYS Canal System drained
for Winter work.
