More from the NYS Canal Corporation regarding their Iconic
Lighting Program along the Erie Canal. This time it's on the
western end, in Tonawanda.

Here's what the Mayor of North Tonawanda had to say.
City of North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec said, “North
Tonawanda expresses our heartfelt gratitude to Governor Hochul,
the New York Power Authority, and the New York State Canal
Corporation for illuminating our iconic bridge connecting the
Tonawandas over the historic Erie Canal.” NYPA and the Canal
Corporation contracted with New York City based Office for
Visual Interaction (OVI), an architectural lighting design firm,
and LiRo Engineers Inc. (LiRo),
based on Long Island, to create these energy-efficient lighting
installations that compliment the historic features of each
Canal structure.
In 2023, the Iconic Lighting Program was internationally
recognized with a prestigious LIT Lighting Design Award for the
illumination of infrastructure along the New York State Canal
system. OVI and the program won in the “Community Building
Lighting” category. Last year’s LIT Lighting Design Awards
attracted over 800 submissions from 58 countries.
Here's what this new Reimagine the Canals lighting looks like:

Here's the official Press Release from the NY State
CanalCorporation website:

And of course not everyone wants to embace these new, exciting
changes to a hundred year old canal system. There's the usual
whining on social media about "phony" environmentalist issues
from that gropu that simply hates anything the Canal Corporation
has been doing to make the Erie Canal System safer & more
attractive. Read the comment below that Ms J. Heckmann wrote,
isnt she contradicting herself in this statement about "light
pollution?
[attachimg=2]
If no "human" is ever going to see this bridge lighting, then
how does it become a "pollution issue?"
And yes folks, Ms Heckmann is an active whiner on this social
media group's webpage, always whining, complaining about things
she doesn't understand or seem to want to learn about. The MAYOR
of that City loves this new change, sadly that doesn't matter to
those like Ms Heckmann and her cohorts on Facebook.

Once again it's time to consider the source...
You can believe a Mayor of a western NY city who sees the value
in revitalizing this outdated National Treasure called the Erie
Canal, to make it more 21st century ready.
Or believe a member of a social media group who's leadership &
membership have already stated that NYPA & the NY Canal
Corporation are both "evil, doing the devil's work".
If "ignorance is bliss" as the old saying goes, this social
media group must be the most "blissful" on Facebook. 😆
