Time to Organize the 4 Towns around Howland Island to clean up
the Seneca River

The name of the group might be this:
SENA - Seneca Erie Neighbors Association
Strength in numbers, the ECNA has been here before with the NYS
DEC & NYS Canal Corporation. Last time the invasive species was
LARGE TREES on small earthen 100 year old dams.
It looks like the Town of Conquest is onboard, here's their new
Vision Statement from the Town Facebook Page.

Water Chestnut harvesting isn't that difficult if you use the
right equipment & resources. Farmers love it for compost & feed,
vineyards love it for "flavoring grapes". Water Chestnut is a
prized medicine in one of the most populated countries in the
world, India.
We took a ride downstream this morning, we were going against
the flow of the river today. Seems like the "new" Seneca-Erie
Canal is using Howland Island like a washing machine or
dishwasher. Agitate the river, flow two directions and leave the
mess as far North of the msin channel as possible.
Here's a video, headed south from Hard Point, about 1/4 mile the
river is 'impassable'.

We need to know there will be public support, more than just
"likes & smiles". Its hard work "fighting city hall" but more
often than not they will try to help make the issue go away.
Respond by joining the Forum, and get involved with the
solution. How does SENA sound?

This is the number one problem for most "private owners" of
Seneca waterfront. There are ways to fix this problem, and it
seems the NYS Canal Corporation may be wanting to hear from the
public now.

It's time to organize as a group, Seneca Erie Neighbors NEED to
be heard, and to have a seat at the table, within NYPA's vast
organization, that's making these decisions that are ruining the
properties of lots of humans, while birds are getting some
debatable benefit.
Please join this forum and let's start getting organized to get
help.
Maybe we start with the NYS DEC Permit Process just to address
water chestnut clearing needs. Shouldn't riverfront neighbors be
allowed to clear away this invasive species without fear of
being charged with a crime for handling, possessing, or
transportation of water chestnut? Why is a law from 1949
standing in DIRECT OPPOSITION to what the New York DEC & Canal
Authority JUST said they are trying to do?

So, here's what Goggle AI came up with when asked. Note that
Federal Law prohibits interstate transport, so how could we
possibly work with Asia, or countries like India, that prize
this plant for it's MEDICINAL use? This "problem" in NY State,
would be viewed as a money-making "prize crop" if you lived in
most countries that make up Asia.
