2024 Erie Canal Navigation Season brings lower water levels...
again.

This announcement just out from the NYS Canal Corporation &
NYPA, the short version is very clear...
NYS will KEEP Erie Canal levels LOWER because NYS Canal System
Dams have NOT been REPAIRED!

Here's a portion of that announcement:
In advance of the 2024 navigation season, the New York State
Canal Corporation today announced that water levels in the Erie
Canal between Lock E-30 (Macedon) and Locks E-34/35 (Lockport)
will be consistent with levels maintained during the 2022 and
2023 navigation seasons – approximately one foot lower than
historic levels.
In addition, water levels in the Glens Falls Feeder Canal will
be consistent with levels maintained throughout 2023 –
approximately two feet lower than historic levels as seeps
continue to be monitored there as well.
The adjustment in water levels is directly attributable to the
Canal Corporation’s efforts to monitor and manage known seeps
along the canal’s earthen embankments.
Levels may vary slightly depending on the location. The reduced
water levels should not impact vessels transiting the canal
within the navigation channel but may impact some docks and boat
launches. Additional adjustments to the water levels, if
required, will be communicated in a timely manner.
The Canal Corporation continuously monitors and inspects these
earthen dams on foot via daily monitoring with our staff, as
well as using advanced technologies like drones and thermal

So if boaters are tired of using step ladders to get down into
watercraft, or dock owners are worried about breaking a leg,
jumping down onto the deck of a pontoon boat, maybe its time to
start protesting AGAINST those in our community who are fighting
against FIXING these aged earthen dams.
Maybe start with that nefarious group on Facebook called the
Stop the Canal Clear-cut, who has decided "shade" is more
important than public safety, and is STILL working against
fixing this huge public safety issue along the Erie Canal
Corridor.
Maybe its time for the greater community at large to callout
those who put all of us in danger, with their careless words...

Western Erie Canal and Glens Falls Feeder Canal – Water Levels
March 26,2024

Just released from the NYS Canal Corporation, information on a
CNY Fishing Program & the estimated opening of the NYS System,
including Lock & Liftbridge operation

Here's the bottom line...
Conditions permitting, all portions of the New York State Canal
system are scheduled to open on Friday, May 17, 2024, for the
navigation season.
The Canal Corporation urges all users and stakeholders to
register to receive updates through the Notice to Mariners
notification program
