       Rochester Eastside Flood Maps from FEMA

       Filling a request for posting FEMA Flood Maps on the Eastside of
       Rochester. Many of these towns are currently involved in a Court
       Case that is has stopped this Public Safety project from
       proceeding through Phase 1 Remediation. After looking at these
       maps and seeing the current Flood Zones associated with the Erie
       Canal, I can only wonder why MORE neighbors of the Erie Canal
       aren't trying to force a restart of the NY Canal Corporation
       work.
       If the Canal Embankments are NOT repaired and moved from their
       current Unsafe Rating back to Safe, it will NOT be long before
       these maps change. That could mean many more Erie Canal
       Neighbors will be forced to purchase Flood Insurance until such
       a time as these Embankment Dams get the repair they sorely need.
       
       If you live adjacent to or under the shadow of the Erie Canal
       Trail Embankments you should be concerned about anything
       standing in the way of safety.

       [attachimg=1]Here's the map for my property. The 'flood zone' is
       the actual canal area, but it also crosses over my back yard and
       runs across my swimming pool. I had to get a variance to install
       the pool.
       What I find laughable is that my property is in a flood zone,
       but it's at least 5 feet higher than the embankment opposite.
       It's physically impossible to flood me, because the water would
       spill over the dam first.
       If you look closely, you'll see that to the left of the canal,
       the entire area is at least 50 feet below the top of the dam,
       yet it is designated a MINIMAL HAZARD FLOOD ZONE.
       To the right of the canal, it is also marked MINIMAL FLOOD
       HAZARD. This area, for those that aren't familiar with it, is
       20-100 feet higher than the canal.
