I've been collecting these transits for many years, and thought
they would be better served in a display for many people to see,
rather than stuck in a box in my basement.
These instruments were 'instrumental' (sorry about that) in the
construction of the canal.

All these transits were purchased in local antique shops and
antique fairs in this area, so it is highly likely they were
used in the canal's construction. My wife and I had a great deal
of fun hunting for them, so we hope they give museum visitors as
much pleasure as they gave us.
