Local Erie Canal Flooding Issues - Cross Canal Brook

Cross Canal Brook originates just north of Woodcliff, flows past
Garnsey and Blackwatch, past Wegmans, through Valley Creek, and
past Martha Brown.
Then this brook flows under Ayrault at Nettlecreek, under the
Erie Canal, to Harvest, Fencewood and Countryside, then finally
out to Irondequoit Creek and Lake Ontario.
And it FLOODS the Town of Perinton quite often.

Mike, thank you for linking to the presentation. It's been
extensively revised and expanded so you may want to take another
look.
NYCC drains the canal into this stream from a gate at the
Ayrault Rd boat launch, to facilitate work on Lock 32. This
started a couple of years ago and will continue for a couple
more. The high flow adds to the severe erosion of the stream
banks here.

Hello Harvest Rd, I've been watching your Presentation File grow
on this issue. It appears that you neighborhood is getting
attention from NYS DEC and NYS Canals.
And it appears that the SOLUTION to start with is what 3
different views all said about the Harvest Road Culvert...it's
too small.
Or better termed... it's "too restrictive to water flow".

Now the issue that should be most alarming is that even more
water is being added to the "flooding problem", by an "upstream
source", namely the Erie Canal.
Are you sure that the open drainage to the Cross Canal Brook
culvert from the Erie is temporary?
Did you happen to ask if it was part of the NYS Canal
Corporation plans to "re-irrigate Western NY?"
Irrigation Improvement is part of NYPA's Reimagine the Canals
effort

In any case I would CONTACT the NYS Canal Corporation formally,
using their online system.
You can find a link below to it. Ask if they can get this
started, it would seem like a TOWN of Perinton responsibility,
but design to promote better water flow past the Harvest Culvert
will be more or larger tubes...and sometimes that in itself
becomes an issue.
If you haven't used this online form before, I can tell you it
usually gets a visit or phone call from NYS Canal Operations, to
see your issue first hand.

Keep up the effort, you will see results once the parties
involved decide who should pay the bill... lol.
