Canal Drainage Schedule?

Hello all, I have a permit to build a dock along the canal but
can't start the work until the water level drops. I'm wondering
if there's a website that shows the current water levels and
possibly a schedule when they will drain certain sections.

Rusty,
We've heard that De-Water (draining ) is between November 14-19
time frame for 2018, about 10 days earlier than past years. Of
course last year a few sections had a "Re-Water" event in late
December to verify a repair made on the West Side.

I see that the canal is scheduled to open around May 17th but
any word when re-watering will begin?

Hi Rusty,
Hope the Dock work is progressing as planned. I saw that same
release on the 2019 Navigation Schedule. All Boating Fees
waived again this year, heard it may be through 2021. It sounds
like the waiver of fees is turning into more boater traffic and
overall Erie Usage.

As for the Re-Watering question, we have asked the Canal
Corporation and are awaiting final date confirmation. Normally
this is done in the third week of April from the Western end,
but our conversations with Leadership at the NYCC is saying the
re-water will be "delayed" due to the ongoing EERP Restoration
as well as several other major repairs that are still ongoing.

They have stated the canal will be filled will be End of April
or possibly into Early May in emails, and will have a confirmed
date once they get updates from all construction leaders doing
off-season work.
Ther ECNA will update this posting if we hear anything else.

Looks like April 28 - May 3 will be the expected Re-Water event
on the Erie this season, hopefully no later than May 3 according
to Pat

Thanks Doug, really appreciate it! The project is going slower
than expected (as usual) but I should at least have the support
posts complete by that time which is the important part. Cheers

Rusty, did you manage to get your dock install done? Water-up
happened on schedule, and so far no leaks in our dam.
Share a picture of your dock if you can, looking at whether to
do a floating platform type dock or fixed myself. Always looking
to compare designs.

Haven't had the time to finish the dock install yet but I'm
close! I will definitely share pictures when it's complete. I
purchased 4' x 20' steel dock frames off Craigslist and
essentially attaching them right to the permanent support posts
I installed this winter. Once it's complete you're welcome to
come check it out and I can share any lessons learned.
