       "I'd rather do without"
I like Cheese. Sometimes I will eat cheese but it's rare. The
day after I eat it I get cold symptoms-- chest congestion,
stuffy nose, etc. I don't know what causes it but it's
uncomfortable. I like breathing so when it comes to cheese I do
       without.
Ice cream is ok. I like to try different flavors. It tastes
good but I get some of the same symptoms as the cheese and it
often upsets my stomach. I'm probably lactose intolerant.
(technically everyone is lactose intolerant. Milk is for
babies.) Anyway, I really dislike feeling bad so when it comes
to ice cream, I do without.
I enjoy eating snack cakes. Little Debbie Fudge Rounds are
probably the most delicious snack on the planet. They are all
made with soy. I’m sensitive to soy and I don’t enjoy poisoning
       myself so I do without.
I have felt love and joy for short periods in my life. Sure
they feel good until they don’t. The most painful moments of my
       life are the transitions from joy to sorrow; love to rejection;
hope to disappointment. So I do without. If there is no joy
then I cannot lose joy. If love is intellectual only then I
don’t have to feel rejection. If I never hope for anything I
won’t be disappointed. I need to protect myself so I do
       without.
