       What a year ago was projected as a mere formality to validate
       the constituent process has ended up being a heavy defeat for
       the Chilean progressive forces. With record electoral
       participation, Rejection beat Approval by almost 25 percentage
       points and only lost in eight of the country's 346 communes. The
       winners came out to celebrate the triumph against "revanchism"
       and a "refoundational" constitutional text that opposed the
       "soul of Chile" and the "common sense of Chileans.

       truncated? Where did the support for the constituent process go?
       This constitutional process began on November 15, 2019. As a
       result of a massive social outbreak in October of that year, the
       main political parties reached a transversal agreement and set a
       calendar for the drafting of a new Constitution. The first
       milestone was a plebiscite in which an overwhelming 78% voted to
       end the Constitution in force since the dictatorship and entrust
       the drafting of the new text to a democratically elected
       Constitutional Convention.

       The results were impressive not only in terms of the percentage
       of votes, but also because of their territorial distribution.
       The Rejection of the new Constitution only won in five communes,
       including the three iconic ones where the national economic
       elite resides. There were several who were quick to point out
       that the result showed that the country was not polarized
       between left and right, but that the true cleavage of the moment
       was people versus elite.
