Covid has changed me. I watched Four weddings

25 years I avoided the awful film. Quintessentially British my
arse I thought. As a student the lives of posh twats and a
socially awkward lead male were not a world I recognised. I
could not escape it though. People had VHS copies and at times I
caught scenes. The end scene has to go down as the worst
performances of two actors. In 1996 I moved to France and every
French idiot on meeting me would say I was like the bloke from
Quatre marriages which was deeply insulting.
Covid has changed me. I just watched it in its entirety. It
still has awful dialogue and clichés but now it is less
aggravating. It was like going back in time. Back to the mid 90s
and a world that was easier. Less botox, minimal mobiles, no
terrorism and no social distancing. I also no longer hate Hugh
Grant. He has now proven that he is not just a pretty face and
has more depth. Back then he was a prick who had Liz Hurley and
took it for granted that he could get hot women.
I wish my kids could graduate university to a world as simple as
1990s Britain. There was more actual conversation and human
interaction. 30 minutes to board a plane and you could carry pen
knives in your hand luggage on a plane.

Watched it in the States, I think, in the 1990s on video. It was
OK, but nothing special. Have always loathed Hugh Grant with a
passion for being a complete and utter one-trick pony. He was
marginally different as Jeremy Thorpe but is still a c unt of
       the highest order.

Oddly enough, I had a similar experience recently.
It was with the ridiculous move "My Best Friend's Wedding" with
the pointy faced Julia Roberts and that totally homo English guy
as the best friend whose name I don't know but he's a total
flaming fagg (not used as a pejorative but as a noun).
Anyway, nothing to do as still under house arrest here in
Sharqiyah in a palatial resort with Indian servants who actually
know their place and call me sahib so I watched the movie.
While Roberts is a ninny, the boyfriend is a typical irish
prettyboy (possibly homo too), Cameron Diaz as her usual not
pretty at all self, but the gay just played himself obviously.
A little funny at moments but to me the star was the greater
Chicago area showing how rich some of those mid west people are
as they live in mansions outside the city on estates as large as
Essex and in houses that would make Tara, 12 Oaks and Buckingham
palace look like a council estates.

       Anyway, it had it's moments.
"That's our Maid of honor. She's from new York." (Sorry, you
have to be American to get it.)
And I disagree with you about Hugh Grant.
I've liked him since he was caught in his car by the police with
       that crack-head black hooker.
The fact she wanted $100 but Grant told her (Napoleon's comment
"a nation of shopkeepers" flashes in my mind) he only had $60
clinched my eternal affection for him.
He almost achieved American level of sleezyness with that
episode and it showed he was just a regular joe, except for his
odd way of talking which made me suspicious he was a fagg too
except for the hooker thing so he redeemed himself.
