Austria

Yes it is very beautiful but I am struggling to find the fun. It
is quiet at night, the Austrians are relatively plain,
humourless. Everything is done at a slow pace and works councils
in the workplace.
I might have to spend a month in 5* hotels in the Tirol and not
get any s#x. Could be the worst assignment ever in that regard.
The odd ski party wander through but that is it. I need to find
the wild orgies.
Where does a man need to go to get blown in sub zero
temperatures in Innsbruck?

Tell me about it. On arriving at my new job I was met by the
Austrian HR guy who also is works council. He wanted to see
passport, CV and certificates of education. Said it was to
ensure I was working to same rights as local hires. Rule Nazi.
I have a UK contract with the IT department meaning I have opted
out of all workers rights and maximum hours. I thought better
than to tell him I was breaking every rule he lives for.

I am in fortress Alps. Where the hardcore SS wanted to continue
the war and fight on to the last man. Fortunately that
resistance collapsed and Allied forces were able to drive in and
thus liberate Austria from the bald Canadians of this world.
The Austrian women at work all look surprised at my English.
They are not used to hearing British English. I am exotic here.
They all speak English but are in awe of my eloquent application
of words. They mostly use only a few hundred stock phrases and I
am introducing them to new words.

Ask them why the former Chancellor Bruno Kreisky - who was
himself Jewish - hounded the Jewish Nazi hunter Simon Weisenthal
and even sued him. The f*cking Austrians have always been Nazis
and vile collaborators. Ckunts.

Ducky I am being nice to modern Austrians. Giving them the
benefit of doubt. They did not vote for Kurt Waldheim. They are
a Liberal democracy with progressive values. You and I live in
the fascists dream state now. I find myself apologising for my
country's poor conduct to Austrians.

Spoke too soon. Airport security turn bags out. Every single
electronic device must be put separately, not just laptops. Then
some unmarked policeman got arsey because I walked in front of
his car for 10 seconds at 8am in a pedestrian area that is
accessible to cars until 10am. "I need to know the rules" he
told me in German.

I am moving on up to the mountains this week. Bit of a commute
into Innsbruck but I wanted to push myself. The Marriott was
void of any character. I want to be able to walk down a mountain
to get to work. Then Friday I am taking the long route home.
Liechtenstein and out through Zurich. Trans alpine express. I am
working but also trying to fit in travel around my job.
Hopefully my boss does not question why I fly home from Zurich.
