Christine Keeler Stephen Ward

Watched one episode live last night. A far removed telling of
the story now to the one I remember in "Scandal". The 80s
version was far more a celebration of sex and promiscuity and
Stephen was very much the victim.
Now the focus is on Christine's story. She is more complex than
the teenage seductress and woman prepared to cash in on sex.
Stephen is viewed with modern eyes. Very much grooming young
girls to win influence with powerful men.
The new portrayal is possibly more accurate but God life was
simpler when women were painted out to be all powerful seducers
of men who were in control. Now the story induces feelings of
guilt and sadness for the women involved and Ward is a Harry
Flashman of his day.

A friend of mine has a minor role in this series.
I watched some of the first episode & almost fell asleep. Sheer
and utter crap compared to the magnificent John Hurt in Scandal.
And, of course, no soundtrack by the greatest.

John Hurt played him too sympathetically. Despite being gay he
was grooming young women to be used by powerful men. All so
wrong inthisdayand age. Sex is violence.

Stephen Ward wasn't gay, and John Hurt's portrayal was spot on.
Sorry missie.

He was not a victim of a witch hunt. In this day and age he
would be on a sex offenders list and barred from any medical or
teaching role. Women can only be victims. Even sex workers who
thought they had given consent

Granted he wasn't a very savoury personage - a kind of Joe
Cummings of the world of osteopathy.
