Introduction
I run a Windows Vista operating machine and I've been wondering
how programs can restore deleted files. I also heard online that
windows does not permanently delete files when you actually put
it in the recycling bin and delete it in there. Truth is, I
found out(I think).
Part I- The Process
First you need to clean up some space.
Go to C:\Windows\temp
Delete anything there
Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\Appdata
AHA you can't see Appdata!Thats because the computer is hiding
it from you >.>
Go to start menu, control panel, appearance and personalization,
folder options, view tab, show hidden files and folders.
Now go to Appdata\Local\Temp
Delete anything there.
Now you have a bunch of stuff in your recycling bin, now go to
the bin and delete everything there again to confirm you don't
want it.
Part II- Unhiding files and gaining space.
Now here is where the huge stuff is. Click my computer and you
will see some new folders and their icons are faded, it
represents it WAS hidden. Click on $Recycle.Bin and guess what
you find, ANOTHER RECYCLING BIN THIS TIME ITS WITH ALL OF THE
FILES YOU EVER DELETED ON YOUR COMPUTER.
I was so amazed that I saw over 10gb sitting in there like a
hidden secret prison.
Part III- Re Hide your Files!!
Make sure you hide the stuff again so that when someone that
isn't so techy goes on and deletes the unhidden files. Its
hidden to protect the system's important files.
Edit: Added newly designed template to this how to. This is a
new beta that I am hoping to impliment from here on. I think It
adds a certain flow to our how to's.~Admin(computerxpds)
