Microsoft Security Essentials is basically a light weight anti
virus program by Microsoft. It does an average job of an
antivirus program that includes real time protection, VERY
frequent updates(a few times a day, but you shouldn't worry
about it), history of detected viruses with partially detailed
information, and Spynet which is a community that can alert
Microsoft about new virus outbreaks and other statistics.
Tests has shown that Microsoft Security Essentials helps
computers shut down and turn on more faster.

Microsoft security essentials is as said an okay anti virus but
I recommend it more for older computers with slower hardware,
the program that I recommend for faster computers is avast5! or
       avira antivir.

But remember this is light weight and very simple. So people who
like it simple or those who don't want to use more memory, its a
       right choice
