Hey, there are many ways to speed up your Windows Vista
operating system. In order to achieve the fastest possible speed
possible, it is recommended you do the following(in any order)
1) Go to your Control Panel and uninstall any programs that are
unnecessary.Examples are: Toolbars, obsolete programs, unused
programs, etc.
2) Check out the Recommended Programs topic here:

Useful programs you can use are: Google Chrome, CCleaner, and
MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware. All three of these programs will aid
you in letting your computer become faster.
3) Get rid of any unnecessary files and folders as well. Even if
folders are empty, just get rid of it. Also, always get rid of
shortcuts! To fully get rid of your files, please check the
guide in this link:

4) Go to Control Panel>Security then click on Windows Defender.
Windows Defender will pop up, now click on the tools icon and
click Software Explorer. Click on the drop-down box and select
Startup Programs, here you will see a list of your start up
programs. Disable ALL unnecessary programs here!
5) Use Windows Update!

This may not speed up your system, but update everything at
least so you can get rid of the icon in your taskbar.
6) Check out the Adjusting Power Options topic, might be useful!

7) Go to Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Performance
Information and Tools> on the left hand side, click Adjust
Visual Effects. A window will appear and you un-check any box
you feel is unnecessary.
