It is really hard to tell with the D2- like I said, on Say My
Name he was intending to sing an octave lower than the C3 he hit
just before that- but it sounded like he didn't make it all the
way down there. And on part 4 of the Ustream, he was singing
"bah bah's" with Jessica- again, hard to tell.

Thanks.
I believe you are right, because Jessica's hitting a D, and they
sound "right." And they sound the same in comparison to other
D2s.
Thanks for finding that note too. Really helped me. :P
Because even if it's not four octaves, it's still
absolutely ridiculous. (And by the time he's in his 20s, so long
as he works on it...he certainly can end up as having over 4
octaves. He reaches his highest notes with Belts, not with a
more "whistle" sound, and as he gets older, his vocal chords
should stretch, allowing him to sing lower...plus, judging by
the Molia video, he clearly works on his range
that's what i'm saying. by the time he's in his 20s, vocally
he'll be a beast! and yes, i noticed his chest/mixed voice
extends further than average. for most people, when you past F5
they start to lose power in their voice, but Dre had power even
when hitting those crazy high notes in Sometimes I Cry and that
really high ending note in Miss Celie's Blues. and it sounds
very vibrant up there and such texture....idk :o. makes me think
he can hit a C6 no problem in mixed voice...not even head voice
yet!
idk much about the technical stuff, but for some of his low
notes check his vegas performance, Georgia on My Mind, and maybe
I'm Your Puppet (i know he hits some low notes there, but i
doubt they're close to his lowest. i just love his tone on that
vid haha)
high notes, check This Woman's Work and possibly Reasons. again,
i'm no expert. just suggesting things to listen to. and even if
i'm wrong, Dre's voice is always beautiful to listen to.

awesome merc! thanx for sharing this info! i've passed it
along on the ai forum bc i don't like to pass up an opportunity
to "represent" over there.. when i saw that others were
discussing range of idol contestants, i just had to give deandre
a shout-out armed with the info i read here! :) i'll update
over there as you fine tune the chart and/or come up with a
video:) but i agree that even without charted evidence i was
already highly impressed with his range and had a feeling it was
among the biggest, if not THE biggest! and not just his range
but i love the quality of his voice as well, just the right
balance of gravel and smootheness! :D thanx to you all for
taking the time and effort to compile all this info! :D

Here's the video I promised. Amazing.
D2 - B5
I didn't give the C2, because he missed it. Although the fact
that he went for it suggests that he can probably sing it. But
still, I wanted what we've seen of him. (Heck, maybe he can even
go to a B2)
Also couldn't find a performance of him hitting a note higher
than a B5. Crazy thing is I know he can. You just can't belt
that the way DeAndre can, and not be able to sing higher. But
once again, you can't give that to him as part of his range
until he proves it.

good job merc! love that you did this! i agree that he hits that
B5 with such ease that he must at definitely be able to hit C6
and even a few notes above.
there's no way that anyone can say Dre was the weakest vocally
out of the guys this year. 3 octaves and 5 notes is a ridiculous
range for someone who's only 17 and he's bound to only get
better at mastering that voice of his.
now whenever someone says that his voice is weak/limited, i'm
gonna show them this video and be like, "suck on that!" O0

making this video. :P
