American Idol' Casualty DeAndre Brackensick Has 'No Regrets'
'My voice is one of the voices where either you love it or you
can't stand it,' DeAndre tells MTV News after his elimination.
By Kelly Marino
Wednesday night's "American Idol" was filled with totally
radical renditions of '80s music, but unfortunately, another one
bit the dust during Thursday's elimination round — and that
someone was the falsetto fresh prince DeAndre Brackensick.
With the week's mentors, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal,
and Jimmy Iovine urging him to lose his nerves, it appeared
DeAndre took note as he owned the stage with his groovy moves,
inevitable hair tosses and finally, for once, a finishing smile.
The judges across the board praised his performance of "I Like
It," with Randy Jackson claiming he could be a newer, 2012
version of DeBarge.
But when it came to Thursday's result night, America did not
agree with the judges' praise. Neither did Iovine, calling
DeAndre's act "the weakest of the boys" because he wasn't
excelling as fast as powerhouse Joshua Ledet. Although Ledet and
Brackensick have two completely different styles of singing, the
17-year-old contestant had nothing but respect for the music
executive backstage after the show.
"Everybody has their opinion," DeAndre told MTV News. "My voice
is one of the voices where either you love it or you can't stand
it, and I just think Jimmy didn't really have a feel for my
voice. But it was fine because I take everything he does say to
me, and I take it to heart. I try to put it into my performances
as much as I can. I have much love for Jimmy."
Iovine's criticism adds to his sometimes-conflicting opinions
with the judges, particularly J.Lo, who was once again outvoted
when it came to the decision of saving someone. But if she
couldn't save the San Jose, California, native, she was sure to
give him some advice to take along.
"J.Lo told me to just let my defense down," DeAndre explained.
"And stop trying to make it seem like everything is fine, which
is really easy for me, because throughout the whole 'Idol'
season, I'm crying. In every episode, I'm crying, so it's fine.
It's just tonight I just didn't want to be sad. I didn't want
America to be sad about something.
"I picked 'Master Blaster' just because I just wanted the crowd
to be going, and I wanted to end up on a happy note. I wanted
people to be happy about my accomplishments, not about what I
didn't do in the future."
Did he have any nerves or regrets? "I felt no nerves at all. No
nerves at all. My last performance, in my opinion, I think was
my best performance. So even though I did get cut, I'm glad I
went off on something I didn't regret. I have no regrets at
all."
So, while this season might be DeAndre's last run with "American
Idol" — let us not forget he failed to enter the top 24 last
season — he promises, just like in the past, he won't stop
believing. " 'Idol' has changed me in the best way possible," he
shared. "I'm so grateful for this experience ... and hopefully
after the ['American Idol'] tour, I just keep going on with
my music. That's what I want and that's what ...," he paused and
corrected himself with a laugh, "not even what I want — that's
what's going to happen. So, yeah, you're gonna see me later on
in music someway, somehow."

DeAndre Brackensick Talks J.Lo Advice, Old-School Soul &
Bringing Back The Falsetto
By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks – 3 hours ago

Brackensick went home in eighth place on "American Idol" this
week, but if it had been up to Jennifer Lopez, he would have
stayed. J.Lo freely admitted on Thursday's results show that
she'd wanted to use the Judges' Save on DeAndre, one of her
favorite contestants, but unfortunately for DeAndre, she was
outvoted by Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. However, when
speaking to Reality Rocks backstage after his elimination,
DeAndre kept his curly head held high, and he made it clear that
he harbored no hard feelings.
"I feel really, really honored that she still wanted to use the
Save on me, being that I'd already been saved," he said,
referring to the fact that he had been a Wild Card pick in the
first place and almost hadn't made the top 13 at all. "But the
fact that I had been saved already, I understood why. A second
chance is good enough, you know? You can only be saved so many
times, so I understood where Randy and Steven were coming from.
Much love to them for just supporting me the first time."
DeAndre's emotional goodbye [photo: Fox]Though he spoke so
quietly he could barely be heard above the din of "Idol's"
backstage chaos, DeAndre revealed that Jennifer had actually
advised him to be a little bolder in the future. "She just told
me to stay me, and let my defenses down. You don't always have
to be cool about everything. You can let go of your emotions at
times," he said, reflecting on their post-results private chat.
"But [when I was eliminated], I tried to keep as mellow as
possible and let everybody else cry. I tried to go on a happy
note. As sad as I am, I'm still happy that I made it this
far....I did cry, I'm not going to lie--behind doors. But I'm
just so grateful for the place I'm in right now."
DeAndre had been in the bottom three before, and he admitted,
"My style of music and singing is you either love it or you hate
it." But undeterred, the 17-year-old, a huge fan of music from
way before his time, explained that he is still on a mission to
bring back the old-school R&B sound he loves. "Music is just
lacking R&B now. Back in the day, everybody was a falsetto
singer! Now it's just so unappreciated....Even if it's [me] not
being a star, I still want to fight for that to come back. My
first CD was James Brown. Something about singers back
then--they SANG. Everything was one take, and you could feel the
emotions of the vocals. Nothing was computerized, nothing was
Auto-Tuned. Everything was music music, everything was pure. And
I just want to bring that back so much."
DeAndre wrapped up his interview by revealing that if he'd
continued on "Idol," his dream theme would have been Motown
Night, mentored by either his own idol Eric Benet (who surprised
DeAndre on the "Idol" set last week after DeAndre sang Eric's
"Sometimes I Cry") or Patti LaBelle. That clearly was not meant
to be, but DeAndre did say Eric has expressed interest in
working with him, and it seems feasible that DeAndre will do
some Motown on the Idols Live Tour this summer. So this kid's
noble goal of bringing back old-school soul still seems very
much within his reach.

This is DeAndre's week to be in the spotlight. He's going to

spotlight.
Gonna watch access hollywood, et and all those shows tonight.
I guess starting Mon. he should be on a few of the major talk

1 - Listen to what Skylar says to him towards the beginning of
the video. She says Twice, "You got a record deal." hmmm...
not sure what that's about.
2 - I can't help but feel one or two of the congrats are staged
for the camera. Sorry... that's just my take on a Few of these
people (coughNigelcough). :P
