Vent: Don't tell me why I love DeAndre!

So this lady at work and I were talking Idol this morning, and
told her that DeAndre was my favorite this year. And she said
that he was terrible, and I said well I love him. And then she
said you only love him because he's cute. And I'm like, no.
His songs aren't the most played on my iPod because he's cute.
I can just look at a picture for that. And then my annoying
friend chimed in and said because he was cute I liked his music.
And I'm like what? That doesn't even make any sense. I'm not
asking people to like him. But respect that I like him for his
musical talents and how his singing makes me feel. I'm sorry,
but it made me so mad.

It's amazing to me how little respect Dre got for his talent.
yes, he was JLo's favorite..and yes..she has a thing for cute
young boys, but he was also one of Steven's favorites.
His range is INCREDIBLE. His tone is so sweet and pure, his
pitch (other than in "Reasons") is usually perfect. This kid is
SO talented.
Did he make the best song choices on idol? I don't think so. But
I've repeatedly said I think with a little help he could have
gone very far in the competition. I also think his nerves showed
a few times, and the staging for some of his performances were
awkward (probably not his fault). And I really think all he
needed was that one performance (His "Bennie" moment, if you
will.) to get him going in the competition..unfortunately he
left before he had it. (If America had heard him sing, say "Ms.
Celie's Blues.." or "Turn Your Lights Down Low".. )
But that voice..it's just exquisite. I don't think Dre knows how
talented he is..
I was actually annoyed..first time..ever..I pick the cutest guy
there as my favorite, and he goes home early. :(

i hear ya tanise! no doubt he is a cutie, anyone with eyes can
see that, but it just shows how shallow minded some people are
if they think it's the reason we like his music or they can't
see past his looks to appreciate his voice.. like merc said,
how could they NOT appreciate it if they actually listened to
what an enormous range he has and how he's always in tune, not
to mention how he channels emotions into the lyrics and makes me
feel it with him, he's so enormously talented, and i don't get
how people don't hear and appreciate that, or why they would
claim to know why we like him better than we know it ourselves!
sure i've done my share of appreciating his beauty, especially
this past week or so of pouring over photographs to help design
a t-shirt, but still, if i added up how much time i spend
drooling over pictures compared to how much time i spend
listening to his music without a visual of him, the music trumps
the cuteness by a long shot! it just so happens that he has
both good looks and musical talent, but yes what i appreciate
most is his talent, i'm with you on that one!
to answer your question, i'm hanging in there, going through
american idol and dre withdrawl, especially since they didn't
show much of him during the finale, so i've been a bit grumpy
and getting annoyed with myself, other than that i'm doing ok...
how 'bout you? how's life treating you these days? (aside from
the annoying incident you spoke of).. did you enjoy your visit
with your mom?

that is annoying... i guess it's a compliment to dre that so
many people find him cute- it's kind of obvious that he is very
good-looking. but then there are those who can't recognize his
talent because it's not their style. i think it will always be
like that for dre, but i think idol was both a humbling and a
confidence-boosting experience for him. people are just missing
out.

tanise they are just jealous , those kind of haters say oh you
like DeAndre because he's cute or has nice hair Blah blah
Blah.... I like DeAndre because of his voice he has an amazing
vocal range for someone so young , I say this a lot because its
true I not a fan because of how cute he is , I'm a fan because
his voice touches my heart . a fine example is my daughter & her
friend[ both going to the idol concert with me] they both think
Dre AND colton are cute BUT BOTH prefer DeAndre's voice over
colton , My daughter always says she loves dre's voice before
she says anything about him being cute.his voice drew us to him
, he is the complete package talent & looks. that's nothing
wrong with that, I think people STILL feel jealous & threatened
by him and its stupid & childish the show is over they should
appreciate the young man has amazing vocal abilities , but many
people don't know real talent even if it bit them in the butt.

I've had that reaction from someone when I said I like DeAndre.
She gave me the look and said Oh yeah, he's very cute.
I had to include..yes, and very talented as well. She was like,
yeah if you like that sort of thing. Of course I said..yes, I
like that sort of thing! then just moved on to different convo.
Felt like I was talking with a freakin Jimmy..made me want to
punch her in the face!
Strange how we take it so personally. It's like their attacking
a family member or friend of yours, you know?
That's why I love all the DreDreamers so much...We get it, We
get him!
Not everyone can have great taste. :-*

I guess the bitches will just be - I wouldnt pay them too much
atention. It definately proves how shallow people can be when
they are unable to accept you like him for his music and not
just his looks. anyway you guys seem to be better off than I am.
Many of my friends don't even think he is atractive :-\

back to Jimmy- what bugged me was when he said once that America
may or may not like his falsetto, without even saying that his
falsetto was really, really good or hard to do. So in that way
he kind of had the same attitude as viewers who just dismissed
it because they didn't like it.

i agree with all of you! it completely annoys me when people try
to tell me i only love Dre because hes cute! yes he is VERY good
looking but his voice is even better. i listen to his music all
day everyday without looking at him. (besides the point that hes
my screensaver). I think its crazy how jealous people are of
him, and they should get over it because it isnt his faulthe was
born with such talent and good looks that most people wish they
had! i lovee how humble he is too(: he doesnt act like hes all
that and that is a great trait to have. frankly, I love Dre for
being HIM.

Yea, it's definitely not fair to have someone make the
assumption that you're shallow and only appreciate him for his
looks. Unfortunately for Dre it seems like being good looking is
both a blessing and a curse: a blessing because it adds to his
marketability factor and star quality in an industry obsessed
with looks; a curse because people will underestimate his talent
and assume he only got so far in watever because he's cute. So
it's like there's a need to prove those people wrong by
completely blowing their faces off (which he is very capable of
doing). I think Dre could've shut up the haters if he had an
idol moment on the show. I think he had some great performances,
but he never got he chance to wow everyone like he's wowed us.
Like wat mercfan3 said, if he ever got the chance to sing Ms.
Celie's Blues or Turn Your Lights Down Low or something like
those, those pple would have nothing rude to say.
I personally was wowed by his voice first and foremost, and
while I did notice he was beautiful, it was that voice that made
me shout "Whoo!" at the tv screen last year when I initially saw
him on idol. And that was before i even knew of a fraction of
his vocal ability. The dynamics of his voice at 17 are crazy!
That's wat impresses me first. Honestly, he could be one of the
most beautiful people I will ever see (and he probably is...)
but if he couldn't SANG like he does, I wouldn't be able to be a
fan.
