gw1 with wc plans

Starting with the assumption of playing 6 dgw players, benteke
seems a lock, the little ive read about tonev make him seem like
he could well be an excellent provider of a potential goal and
can score, agbonlahor looks like playing a forward role and the
most likely next to benteke to get a goal, I really don't know a
huge amount about AVL so these ideas could be way out with new
info.
My 3 Chelsea picks are on the basis that mourinho said he would
rest all the int players which would rule out mata, ramires,
Oscar and jose also said he would play lampard more carefull
which leads me to think hazard, de bruyne and schurrle would
start, i honestly don't know who he will pick as a striker so i
decided to avoid the problem and it works out well as i think
the 2 avl strikers are your points basis for that team in the
dgw.
This all frees up quite a lot of money so i can splurge on bale
and have some excellent defenders, i picked sagna as he is the
most likely to start from the discussions had and i like the
fixture so he feels a fairly solid point score, the same with
Johnson and he has some goal/assist potential as well, same with
company and he feels likely to start though if this is wrong i
can pretty much pick any 3 defenders i like.
Hart in goal just because he seems the most likely to have a
clean sheet.

The team looks fine for a DGW selection pre wildcard my only
concern would be the selection of Schurrie and De Brunye as
solid starting picks as they represent a gamble in respect to
game time could conceivably play no part or both matches no one
knows for sure personally i really don't think they will figure
in both, my gut feeling is they my play some part in 1 match
only it might be wise to consider Cech for Hart as a safe pick
as both the 2 matches are at home against weaker opposition and
he will start both.Cole is the other safe pick but again could
get a rest with Man Utd next up. I believe you have to much
A/Villa coverage given that both their DGW matches are difficult
and both away have a look at replacing Agbonlahor for Lukaku
leaving you with Benteke and Tonev to play the DGW with which I
think is enough villa coverage, i am sure Lukaku will start
against Hull with Torres on international duty and Ba down the
pecking order will he start both in both games not sure he will
but he could run riot against hull which might see him cement
his place for the 2nd match against Villa worst case scenario is
he comes off the bench and look what he did last match of last
season with a 2nd half hat rick against Man Utd for WBA from the
bench just some thoughts for you to mull over.

Guys as a team collective do we all feel comfortable with the
DGW tactic then Wildcarding for GW2 personally I think its the
perfect opportunity to get off to a good start and have a look
at the rest of the playing field spotting potential bargains and
price rises for GW2 my only concern is picking the Chelsea
double starters to maximise the potential points gain, if we
don't nail it it may feel like an opportunity spurned as opposed
to an opportunity gained. Thoughts?

I've always been keen on the week 1 wild card. The fact that
there is a double game week is just the icing on the cake.
Predicting the Chelsea line up is really tough.
I think that Hazard, Cole and Cech are the only 3 I would
confidently predict to start both games. Without any clear
indication from the Chelsea camp anything else at this point in
preseason is pure speculation. I think that there will be some
rotation and whilst it may be near impossible to get 3x players
starting both games, the situation gives us a comfort zone in
that most players we think should be starting will probably get
enough minutes to offset the risk.

I'll be WC immediatelly after GW1. I'm still concerned about
Tonev and Lukaku, and I don't like having no City attack, i.e.
Silva. O'Shea is just provisional, it'll probably be somebody
most likely to get clean sheet, maybe one of West Ham boys?

+1 re Josephus's comments on the 3 Chelsea starters its Lukaku
that concerns me he has the potential to score big in that first
game if like is expected Torres gets a break after possibly
playing and flying back from Ecuador but he is a selection risk
for the 2nd match? Isalla I also like the West Ham fixture at
home to Cardiff there is a good chance of a clean sheet and I
have gone for Collins as my defender more than capable nicking a
goal from a set play. What is peoples thoughts on Guzan in goal
is he a better shout than say Clark the villa defender who seems
to know where the goal is Guzan may well get save points both
matches or are Villa defenders best avoided ATM I have Benteke
and Tonov to go with Cole Hazard and Lukaku thoughts?

Guzan's save points swings the pendulum in his direction. On the
slim chance Villa keep a clean sheet in either game I get a
slice of that pie. It I were to go for a Villa defender then I
would consider Luna who is replacing Bennett at left back. He is
22 and has a stop start career so there are no stats to really
sell his potential. He has played as a left winger at times so
I'm expecting attacking football from him.
If you put me on the spot I think Lukaku will start Chelsea's
first game with Ba coming on just after 60 mins. Unless he has a
top notch game I think Torres will start the second game with
Lukaku replacing him early in the second half. This equates to a
base of 3 points plus over 90 mins of game time which feels like
a fair return. I'd happily go with Lukaku unless I was confident
of picking 3x Chelsea midfield players who would start both
games.

I spoke to a west ham fan who said that Rat was in incredible
form and was their outstanding player preseason so he might be
an excellent choice. I have gone for coleman in that spot
because he might be a little more attacking minded and I think
Norwich are less likely to score against everton than Cardiff
are against west ham.
I have an embarrassing admission to make, this is my second
season and only now am I properly studying the point system....
on that note Czech seems way way better for gw1 than I first
thought and provides another guarantee starts. Are people that
concerned about ivanovic starting? He was miles away their best
defender last season and with luiz/azil possibly on int duty and
tired I cant imagine he will have vast competition for the spot.
Im still struggling with lukaku, pretty much everyone seems to
have him but concerns are being made that he wont play 60 mins
both games which is a fair concern and with the amount of
attacking talent its not like all the play goes through him.
I still think playing 3 avl players is better, just playing 60
mins, twice, is almost as good as scoring once and you want to
have as much chance of picking up the points from goals/assists
as possible from the two games. I just don't really see a reason
not to pick another fwd AVL player, unless you really think
lambert will score, on average, more points from 1 game than
they will from 2.
I went for clichy in defence as his spot seems less contested,
if less exciting for goals.
p.s ignore captain selection...

having AVL defenders seems really bad to me, in all honesty. The
chances they keep 1 clean sheet is absurdly low. If Chelsea are
indeed resting a lot of their midfield it leaves a lot of the
defensive mids left, 4-3-2-1 is a very possible lineup meaning a
higher chance of clean sheets by Chelsea and a lower chance of
them scoring big. Given Mourinhos tendancy to score and defend I
wouldn't put too much weight on any one player getting some huge
haul and playing it safe to try and get the clean sheet bonus
twice might be the best attempt at points. Ivanovic still has a
shot at an assist/goal as well!
I agree that I can really see lukaku coming off at the end of
the first game and maybe not starting the second, really
nullifying the investment in the dgw, consider the points you
are likely to get from him under those circumstances, then
consider how many you are likely to get from a defender/gk doing
the same and keeping a clean sheet, it's quite strongly in the
favour of the defender I feel.
I do want a City attacker still so have squeezed in aguero and
downgraded courtinho to paulino ( what is with all these ho's ;)
). Stoke aren't great at scoring but they aren't bad at
defending wheras I can see palace letting in a few so im not
sure how much of a downgrade it is, it also gives some bale
assist point potential, with sturridge still injured and all the
suarez malarkey there could be some turmoil at liv which could
affect things.
I really don't like west ham def over everton for gw1, Cardiff
are a much more attacking minded side than Norwich, and even
with van wolf, im still thinking everton are more likely to
contain them than west ham contain Cardiff. Coleman also offers
a lot more assist potential than anyone at west ham.
I am back to no red shirts though.....

Is it just me that hates that there's a DGW in wk1? I wasn't
planning to go down the immediate wildcard route this season (as
I sometimes have a tendency to knee-jerk) but I do feel like the
situation heavily favours it.
I agree with farside about staying away from Villa defenders.
They had a few absolute shockers last season defensively and
away at Arsenal and Chelsea just sounds like a recipe for
trouble. Guzan will pick up some save points but is he a better
bet than a keeper with a good fixture? I don't think so
personally and instead I'm likely to go for Cech in goal as he's
one of the few people I'm confident will start both games for
Chelsea. I can see Benteke managing one goal over the two games
so I'll have him in the side and I may add in a Villa midfielder
as they'll likely have a 4pt base. I can't see that beyond that
they offer much value so probably just the two villa players for
me.
As far as Chelsea goes, I think Josephus is spot on: Cech, Cole,
and Hazard are the most likely to start both games and they're
the three that I've opted for at the moment. I'd love to put in
Lukaku but it would be a big risk. Maybe if Mourinho gives a few
more indications about his plans as pre-season goes on then I
might plump for him at the expense of Cole but at the moment I
playing it slightly conservatively.
