       mert vs kos

I have kinda gone for mertesacker everytime to fill the 5.5 m
role at the back but hes selected by a huge amount of the field
and has fewer points per minute than koscielny by quite a way.
How much of a rotation risk is it to pick kos just to find a
standout player that fewer people have gone for?

Watching the Arsenal matches towards the end of last season Kos
was by far the best defender they had, so I don't think this
season he's any more likely to miss game time through rotation
than Mert. Given Vermaelen's back injury is likely to see him
miss at least the first few weeks of the season, and that the
next CB in line is Miquel I think both are nailed on for at
least the first month. I would guess that their respective
performances in that time will be the biggest factor in who gets
sat when Wenger rotates. Honestly I think there's very little to
choose between the two of them.

This is only my second season so my knowledge is still very
poor. I think im gonna go with Kos at the start, the fact hes
choose by fewer means that if he does perform well then his
price might increase a little more and its something a little
different, he also does seem better statistically that mert
which I never bothered to work out before.

My Arsenal defender of choice is Sagna (5.5). He is not the most
prolific going forwards, but if fit should start virtually every
game as Arsenal don't have direct competition for this spot.
I always regret bringing in players who are playing because of
other players being injured. Injured players tend to come back
at the most inconvenient of times.

I am starting to see why you are going with him, though do you
not think kos will play much then?

I always try to pick players that I think won't be rotated which
is much easier said than done.
As the season goes on you get 3 cup competitions, suspensions
and injuries on top of general squad rotation. There are so many
things that conspire against you I don't want to add fuel to the
fire by selecting players I know are at direct risk.

I agree with Sagna being the safe pick out the back four only
Jenkinson as direct competition so no brainer 1st choice he is.
Merts and Kos will at some point both be under pressure from
Verm when he recovers from injury for a spot in central defence
so both a risk, and to much competition for the left back spot
in Gibbs and Monareal Verm can also play that role, i would take
Gibbs as first choice but he is prone to injury if I was to
start an Arsenal defender for the season in preference of order
it would be Sagna ,Mert, kos, Gibbs, Monareal, Verm.

Sagna was one of my first picks when I started to assemble my
team. At one point I even considered taking Jenkinson as well
(as cover), since I intend to play Sagna every game.
