Mod 16: Undermountain

I'm sure that most have you heard that with Undermountain comes
a complete overhaul of Neverwinter. Sounds pretty intimidating
and there are many differing opinions about the changes.
Dungeons & Dragons has always been about bringing people
together. Adventure, teamwork, and roleplaying are a huge part
of what D&D is, and Neverwinter, being a D&D game should be no
different, right?
Since we don't have Undermountain on console yet, I can't tell
you my feelings on it. I don't have any personal knowledge of
how the revamp is going to impact our community. I can tell you
what I think about the ideas behind the changes and what the
developers have stated on why these changes are necessary, so
that's what I'm going to do.
One of the things that really disappointed me about Neverwinter
is the amount of elitism, lack of inclusion, and
closed-mindedness too many players exhibited. As more details
were released about Mod 16, I became more excited because the
developers seem to be saying "We want the community to actually
be a community, an online environment where all people can
create a character they enjoy playing, that fits their
playstyle, and run all unlocked content while being an asset to
their team." Currently many players are very specific about
having a particular group composition that is more detailed than
just a tank, a healer, an three DPS. Just today I saw someone
looking for a tac GF, AC DC, devo OP, and HR with LSS to run
Castle Never. I'm all for building your group the way you want
so don't think I'm knocking them. I'm just making an
observation. In my opinion, you don't need all that. Three DPS,
a healer and a tank are more than adequate for that dungeon.
All that being said, the changes being made to Neverwinter seem
a lot like 5th Edition D&D, which is a more streamlined,
straight-forward, and more inclusive edition of the tabletop
game. I feel like this type of setup is more beneficial to MMOs
in general and will be a great change for Neverwinter as a whole
because it will allow people that currently struggle to run some
content, especially end game content, more options to build
strong, capable characters of their choosing. That's the idea
and the goal I think. If it holds true, I think it's going to be
a whole new wonderful gaming world.
Here's to new beginnings, new adventures, and new friends
