       House of Solace

Solace was experiencing something she'd never encountered
before- exhaustion. Not the ordinary type, not the kind one
experiences after a long, hard day of work. She was weary down
to the core of her being and even her bones hurt. The last few
weeks were extremely challenging, but nothing she hadn't dealt
with before. Beholders, Thayans. dragons, cultists, bickering
homesteaders, and several summons from Lord Neverember and Sgt.
Knox were all part of the normal routine.
"Why do I feel so...?" she spoke the question aloud and let it
       drift off, shaking her head.
She decided to strike out on her own for a few days and consult
with Torm. In all her years the god had never lead her astray
and perhaps that's what she needed most right now. As she packed
her bag, she tried to decide where to go. Her conclusion: let
Lilac decide. Some how the crystal horse always knew exactly
where to go and exactly what to do. Saddlebags loaded, she went
       to speak with the steward.
"Master Steward," Solace called, leading Lilac toward him.
As he turned toward her, he responded, " I told you before, Lady
Solace, I am no one's.." he stopped for a moment at seeing her
before completing his sentence. "Master," he finished. "Are you
well?" he asked. He looked genuinely concerned.
"And I told you before, Master Steward, I am no Lady," she
forced a grin. "And yes, but I'm in need of rest and reflection
so I'll be out a few days. Send for Sebastian if you need. Send
Skygal for me if you REALLY need." Solace mounted her horse.
"And for the love of the realm, please don't burn the stronghold
down while I'm away." Normally that would get at least a grunt
from the Steward, but not this time.
"Perhaps you shouldn't go alone. I'll send a squire for Indy to
       accompany you and'-"
Solace cut him off. "I've done this thousands of times, Sir
Steward. I assure you I'll be quite well." He knew better than
to argue anymore, but the expression of worry was still present.
"Very well," he said finally. "Safe travels."
Solace nodded her thanks and headed toward the gate and whatever
       lay beyond.
