       Legends and Rumors
Icewind Dale is divided into three distinct regions: the
temperate forests warmed by the ocean winds in the south, the
frozen tundra at the foot of the great glacier in the north, and
the howling, barren peaks of the Spine of the World mountain
range, the highest in all of Faerun, cutting between them.
The primary residents of the southern forests are groups of
Goliaths and flights of Harpies. They enjoy a tenuous peace,
though in the colder months, quarrels over hunting grounds are
       common.
In the north, between the mountains and the glacier, Ice Giants
reign supreme, in what is one of the last vestiges of Giant
       civilization on the continent.
