Grand Halen is weak, it's time on this planet could very well be
brief. The united people of this land are self-confident and are
brought together by gratitude of each-others efforts, whatever
their endeavors may be. Quick progress and the cementation of
disparate cultures into a unified nation is the only way this
young Kingdom can survive the many dangers that loom outside its
       border... and within them.
       Life and Society
The people of Grand Halen are a free people, since Rognvaldr was
elected to the throne, he has not violated any of his subject's
promised liberties. Many of the old families of this area are
dead, and nearly all of the old noble lines are broken. A strong
majority of Grand Halen's population comes from immigrants from
Damara, Thar, Denerim, Aglarond, Thesk, Gulthandor, Turmish, and
the Dragon Coast. People from all around the Sea of Fallen
Stars, Faerun's Heartland, seek refuge and opportunity in Grand
       Halen.
Such a diverse cultural background can cause disagreements
however. Rognvaldr's justice system is seen as one of the
fairest in Faerun, although it's not as commonly considered
forgiving. The courts and judges of Grand Halen are well trained
in insight, detecting lies, and negotiating courtly matters. But
another system has come about as well, one which is used to
settle disputes which can't quite be covered in a stale
courtroom, this Grand Halen calls the Thunderdome. The
Thunderdome is where matters of honor are solved. Grand Halen
leaves the likes of economic disputes, marital rights, funeral
rights, legal protections, etc. to be solve in the courts. When
it comes to a man disgraced, he has rights to challenge his
       opponent in the Thunderdome.
To many of the old Kingdoms of Faerun, Grand Halen seems like an
impossibility. They can't believe that so many disparate
cultures and peoples can come together so peacefully, in fact
some more distant Nations thing that Grand Halen is but a myth.
Despite the incredulity of others, something about Rognvaldr's
leadership, his skill and understanding with people, holds this
       ragbag nation together.
       Major Geographical Features
The Sea of Fallen Stars borders the Vast to the west and south.
The Earthspur Mountains mark the areas north boundaries.
Earthfast Mountains: This arm of the Earthspur Mountains runs
west to the Dragon Reach. Its steep slopes make mining
difficult, but recent discoveries of copper, silver, and iron
veins have convinced many to brave the hardships in hopes of
wealth. Giant eagles and other avian creatures claim the highest
peaks as their territory, while great numbers of orcs and ogres
lair in the deep reaches of the mountains.
Two major passes allow land traffic to move north and south:
Elvenblood Pass in the west, and Glorming Pass in the east.
Fire River: This wide and generally placid river descends from
the high country and flows west to empty into the Sea of Fallen
Stars at Bardertown, It has one major cataract at Dragon Falls,
some hundred miles upstream from Bardertown.
       Regional History
The regions of Impiltur and Vesperin were much like any other
nations bordering the Sea of Fallen Stars. They were feudal
monarchies, with economies based on mining, agriculture, hides,
and lumber. Decades before the Spellplague, and even further
before the Shardmind invasion, the Witch-King Zhenyi invaded
Impilture and Vesperin, enslaving or slaughtering their
populations and instating his Warlock-knights as new feudal
kings. After the Warlock-Kight of Ravensbluff, Var, united a
counter-offensive to the Witch-King and subsequently freed
Vaasa, Impiltur, Damara, and Vesperin his tyranny, all that was
left of Vesperin/Impiltur was ruined cities, farming villages
       and coastal pirate towns.
This area restored itself over the next 100 years, accepting
Damaran and Denerim Nobility as feudal lords in some of their
new and restored cities. Prospects looked good for this region
until the "Twin Tragedies" of the spellplague and the shardmind
invasion. Rognvaldr, a champion the Raven Queen and savior of
the Hearland, was gladly accepted as the new King of a united
Grand Halen and has been working to repair and expand the realm
       since.
       Legends and Rumors
Some great power lies hidden at Rognvaldr's palace at
Bardertown, no feasible source is known, but people are drawn to
       it.
