Get Charity Funds, Kiss Ladies
By: Duncan Seastove Date: November 15, 2017, 11:15 pm

With Asmundr safely aboard the Hang 'em High, his simulacrum
taking his place in Ruby Valentine's bed, Francisco takes the
helm of the mighty flying vessel, setting a course for Hightower
Hold in the Black Bay.
The air is crisp and the sun warm as you leave the slumbering
masses to nurse their hangovers in the Thunderdome Plaza. The
waters of the bay heave lazily, and you can spy many fishing
vessels rolling calmly over the slow swells. Though you can't
see it right now, you're sure that Ellie Swift's ship is among
them, her and her crew finally able to get back to fishing now
that they are no longer needed aboard the Hang 'em High. Some of
these vessels have attracted the interest of starback sharks,
glinting and glimmering as they swirl about the baited fish.
The Hang 'em High soars above the waves with remarkable speed,
and in less than half an hour, you come upon the island of Tyvo.
Hightower Hold clings tightly to the cliffs on the western edge
of the island, the beacon atop its tower unlit on this clear
spring day. Sparse pine groves creep down the sloping island to
the eastern shore, where a small fishing village has sprung up
along the wide, stony beaches. You can see Lady Endergaard's
ship anchored a ways out in the shallow waters, her banner
fluttering in the gentle breeze. With the benefit of your flying
capabilities, you set your craft down just outside of the
village, much to the amazement of many of the villagers, and
make your way up a well-worn dirt trail to the castle above.
As you make your way out of the sloping pine groves, Hightower
Hold comes into view. The dark stone curtain walls are streaked
with salt and pockmarked by algae and lichen, but they have
clearly weathered many a storm. The eponymous high tower rises
out of a squat stone keep behind the walls, and two guards in
sealskin jackets and caps snap their spears to their sides in
attention as you pass through the open gates. Within the yard of
the castle, you see several knights of Lady Endergaard's retinue
milling about, among them Lady Quinley Foxhall and Sir Agon
Bronzefist. Agon immediately makes his way to your group and
extends his bronze hand to you, grinning toothily through the
bramble of his dark brown beard. Lady Foxhall eyes you keenly
behind folded arms.
"Ah, the Fallen Star company!" The dwarf's voice is thick and
gravelly, and his lively blue eyes meet each of you as he greets
your party. As his eyes fall upon Asmundr, disguised as an
elderly woman in the service of Pelor, he says, "And who is this
bonny lass you've brought with you? My name is Sir Agon
Bronzefist, ma'am. A pleasure to meet you!" Agon furrows his
brows and scans the rest of your group, leaning his head from
side to side in order to see around Clunk's hulking metal frame.
"Is good Prince Asmundr not with you? He still hung over or
something? He weren't around this morning when we came by your
inn."

During the interim traveling period, Geoffrey proceeds to pay
off a few commoners as well as forge a few documents (using his
forgery kit) to create a fake identity for Asmundr. As the
leader of the Phantom Thieves, Fox leaves surveillance of Barder
Town to two of his underlings while he and the party are out
travelling.
"Pay attention to anyone new who comes into town, we need to
keep tabs on any foreign agents or if some of Valentine's people
come looking for her. Don't put yourself in danger, just give
them a bit of a goose chase," Fox warns before leaving. "Now
Vigil, I want you to head to Valentine's HQ, I'm not sure we've
seen the last of her just yet. Try and arrange a safe house, and
identify any big players in the region. You have a few weeks to
do so before we arrive. Be careful."
In the evenings, Geoffrey makes it his goal to investigate
Endergaard's 'lady friend' a bit more - gather some rumours
about her, where she stays, how she takes her coffee, etc.
Geoffrey, acting as Edward, is also going to send ahead to the
Dwarven Stronghold, paying a courier a few GP to deliver a
letter. In the letter he announces that the Dwarves should be
expecting a visitation of rare and exotic spices from all over
the world - Waterdeep to Dagerford (hopefully after some time in
Grand Halen, Edward's reputation is worth something). As his
spices are quite rare, Edward has contracted one of the finest
Adventuring groups in the whole nation to guarantee the security
of his goods, The Fallen Star Company. (The letter also serves
the purpose of alerting the Stronghold of how we'd like to meet
with the rather important Clans during our visit.)

Faced with a dwarf Clunk doesn't know how to greet him. Does he
look down and tower over him and reach for his hand or rather
bend at the knees and squat? Scratching his head for a moment
Clunk just stands awkwardly in place and tilts his head
down."Hello Sir Bronzefist, We have news about Asmundr. Before
that let us get inside the elements are not kind to everyone."
Glancing back at the old lady in our party.
"Let us have (tea/coffee/whatever is the drink of choice for
Rich powerful people), Lady Endergaard should hear this news."
Leading inside Clunk will sit at the center of a large wooden
table waiting for everyone to take a seat before continuing "We
missed you at the inn, because another candidate attempted to
deceive us and play a trick on us. So at the moment we are
keeping things close to the vest. I hope you understand, but at
the least you deserved some amount of heads up. I'm trusting
you with this information, my trust does not come easy."

Agon Bronzefist frowns and studies your steely expression for a
moment before saying, “Aye, best get inside. Kat and Lord
Hightower are still catching up, I reckon, but if this news is
as important as you say, that can stand to wait. We’ll be here a
few days anyway.”
Agon turns to lead you all inside, and shouts to the other
knights, “You lot stay out here! Don’t go drowning or nothing
while I’m gone.” Lady Foxhall quietly falls in behind your group
as you make your way into the main hall of the castle.
Light filters into the hall through leaded glass windows near
the fifteen foot high ceilings, and you can see a variety of
fish hung on plaques decorating the walls. The hall is dominated
by a long wooden table atop a dais, at which are sat Lady
Endergaard and and elderly man, shortly cropped white hair
swirling about his head, who you presume to be Lord Thaddeus
Hightower. After Agon explains the situation, Lord Hightower has
a serving boy bring the group some hot chocolate, and offers
everyone seats at the high table.
“Once, when I was walking along the cliffs, I spied a man
floundering the in waves below, about to be dashed upon rocks,”
Lord Hightower explains as the chocolate is passed around. “The
guards were all done up in mail, too heavy to swim, so before
they could protest, I leapt in after him. I had quite forgotten,
however, that I still had my sword upon my waist, and between
that and the man’s preposterously large robes, the both of us
were as like to be sunk to the bottom before we ever had a
chance to be slammed into the rocks. So I undid my scabbard,
and, after some doing, got the man out of his robes. I swam us
out away from the rocks until one of the boats from the village
came round to fetch us. Well, as it so happened, the man was a
spice merchant out of Calimport, and now whenever he passes this
way, he brings me a bit of Chultan Chocolate. Now then, what was
this news you had, Sir Clunk?”

After hearing Clunk’s explanation, Lady Endergaard leans back in
her chair, resting her chin on her fist.
“I can only imagine,” she says, “Who that could have been, based
on who lingered at the end of the party. I thank you for your
trust, Master Clunk, and I will vouch on my honor that every
member of my party at this table could be afforded that same
trust. I have trusted each of them with my own life, and they
have never let me down. Now tell us, what has become of Prince
Asmundr?”

"I am under no orders to tell anyone his whereabouts, He will
show himself when he wishes. Until then I cannot say." Clunk
responds. Leaning on the table with hands interlocked he
continues.
"As you know Asmundr is a man of..." Clunk pauses for a moment
his eyes still burning a hole into the face of Lady Endergaard.
"Drama, and flair" Clunk straightens up "And we are short on
time, we have a mess to clean up. Unless my companions have
other business I would like to deal with this issue."

The silence answering his question Clunk nods "While our meeting
as been short, it was pleasant." Clunks fist slams into his
chest with a sudden thud and turns leaving the building.
He climbs back on the Hang'em High and slowly pens a letter to
The Mountain blades.
~Greeting Mountain blades
This letter is coming to you in order for The Fallen Star
Company to proper assess your worth. The Fallen Star Company is
holding an auction for charity on the 19th of the time of
flowers. We would like for you to dungeon dive and bring back
magic items and jewelry. We are hoping that you can prove
you're as great as the many tales of your deeds make you out to
be. This will be in place of an interview, of course you will
be payed for this task in the standard FSC fashion. Please take
this with the utmost seriousness and bravery. The outcome will
impact our relationship going forward. We all here at FSC wish
you the best.
-CLUNK~
Smiling at the letter, he encloses it and seals with it the
official FSC seal and hands it off to be delivered with the
haste.

Acting like an old lady-in-waiting, Asmundr tries to grab
Endergaard's hand, "Ohhh aren't you a darling, I can tell why
Asmundr has taken such a liking to you, Ah hehehehehehe. I am
Asmuralda, I was Queen Chryserys's Lady for the longest time
when Asmundr was young, oh he was such a muffin Ah heehhehehehe.
I saw that wench Valentine try to work her succubus powers on
him, oh but we raised him right, he turned it right around on
her ta hehehehehehehehe. Such a nice young boy, he would never
betray the trust of those he cared about. Oh no, no to betray
his fondness for you with a fiend like Valentine, he couldn't do
it, even if she had philter-of-loved him. OH oh my, did I say
something I shouldn't TA hehehehehe. Don't tell Asmundr I said
that ta haahahahehehehe." Asmuralda does an insight check to
determine how Endergaard is reacting: 26.
She curtsies and says, "Well, the little guy" she catches
herself, "well I bathed him, and I should know not to call him
little guy TA HEHEHEHEHE, Asmur wanted me to give you this"
Asmuralda has her the Stone of Elemental Summoning, "If you ever
get in some heated combat, you can fight fire with fire, just
toss it at the ground, Ah heheheheheh"

Lady Endergaard seems taken aback by the words of Asmuralda,
even slightly annoyed, and when the old woman attempts to hand
her the elemental stone, Katja closes Asmuralda's hands around
it and says, gently but firmly, "If Prince Asmundr seeks my
friendship with this gift, you may tell him he already has it.
If he seeks more," Katja crosses her arms and reclines slowly in
her chair, "you may tell him that he will not get it by
showering me with gifts. If he has a problem with this, he may
come discuss it with me himself whenever he is able."
Lady Foxhall eyes Asmuralda with suspicion, while Agon
Bronzefist stifles a laugh. Lady Endergaard stands from her seat
and begins pacing behind the table. "As for Mayor Valentine,"
she says, staring off into the distance as she paces, "Asmundr
must be more careful not to let himself be put into such
situations. She is a dangerous woman, and soon we will be
entering her lair. He may have been able to slip out of her
grasp in his own Magnificent Mansion, but he might not be so
fortunate in Tantras. It would be a great blow to all of us if
such a woman were able to blackmail someone as influential as
Prince Asmundr."
--------------------------
As for the rest of you...
--------------------------
*I'm skipping around a bit so that we have all the information
we need to play on monday*
After you depart Hightower Hold (and then arrive at Tolbrun, the
Dwarven stronghold), you are greeted by a courier holding three
letters. Two of them appear to be bills of sale addressed to the
spice merchant Edward, although in actuality Geoffrey's trained
eyes detects the marks and signs of the Phantom Thieves. The
other is signed to Clunk from the Mountain Blades. The first
letter reads:
Fox—
Found myself a cozy spot in town. Meet me at the Belafonte. Try
the crab legs.
—Vigil
And the second:
Imports: Steel (Tantras), Glass (Guild), Silver (Denerim)
Prices to be negotiated.
Your trained eye tells you that this is a code, to let you know
that some enforcer types from Tantras, some spies from the Guild
of the Golden Dragon, and some of the Silver Hoods, Denerim's
resistance force, have all arrived in Bardertown, though their
purpose their hasn't yet been discerned.
As for the message to Clunk:
Master Clunk—
We are honored to have been so selected. We will meet you in
Calaunt the day before the auction to go through what we have
collected. We won't let you down.
—The Mountain Blades
The courier also informs you that the Brightchest, Hammerhand,
and Bronzefist clans have been awaiting your arrival, and are
prepared to host you in their clan halls for an inspection of
your products whenever you are ready.

*Keeping with the skipping around idea
Receiving the letter Clunk reads it, smirks and throws it into a
fire. Reaching into his pocket clunk retrieves more paper and
pen. Sitting down to write Clunk begins
~Dear Lord Delphinius
How is this batch of recruits? Could they become capable
soldiers? Talented adventurers? Any of them you think could
lead? What(meta) class composition could they have? Hope all
is going well otherwise and that this task is not unwelcome.
Also If you hear any rumors about Asmundr, just know he is doing
what he does best ;)
Clunk, FSC
Clunk puts the letter down and hands it over to be delivered.
Clunk sighs at all this inaction and starts to thinking about
the passive and thrill of deadly combat, Daydreaming about the
blood, the screams Clunk shakes his head and readies himself for
Tolbrun.
