Following a successful celebration, an old friend Campnella
appeared with his new hype-man in towe. Hired by Queen Oswynn of
Impiltur, he was set to deliver a missive to the Fallen Star
Company, the group of best known adventurers in the region.
Unable to stay long, Campnella road onwards to other
settlements, to deliver what you assume to be a similar message.
Where the Fallen Star Company in the past had searched for
missions, this time they were the ones to be asked for their
expertise - see Lady Oswynn in Lyrabar, and she will give the
party 300 GP up-front as a consultation fee. Not much later, the
whole party was drawn outside by a mysterious sight. The moon
was being blocked out by the silhouette of a sky castle high
above the ground. What could such a thing be, thought many, as
some of the party's most informed members and guests postulated.
Preparations took some days as the party realised their coffers
were running dry, and an easy 300 GP injection would be sweet.
Before leaving they were setup with two additional contacts:
Alexandra's Harper contact in Triboar, Darathra Shendrel has
been mostly out of contact for some time. Alexandra believes the
party could gain a useful local contact in Darathra if/when they
find her.
Geoffrey's newly expanding network has made contact with a
useful informant in Port Llast named Desmond Featherwyrm. He
knows the local region well and is known to be reliable.
The Company journeys back to Barder Town, picking up the
Hang-em High, and setting sail for Impiltur. After roughly one
week of travel, the party come across a ship-wreck. Popo rescues
two survivors from the water, likely saving their lives. The
only conscious survivor retells a tale of how their modest ship
was torn asunder by a massive longship. Men and women, pale
blue, the size of trees, simply rammed the vessel and killed all
which did not fall into the water. The men were from Luskan, but
the party could not be distracted in their clear mission. Popo
graciously offered to provide them with some means of getting
back to their families once the party reached Lyrabar.
Upon arrival in Lyrabar, the party paid their docking fee of 40
GP for the next 3 days, and ventured towards the palace. Along
the way, they were intercepted by a happy-go-lucky dual-wielding
crossbow extraordinare Durango Daniel. After a gruelling
interview, the party saw his merit and they journeyed together
to the palace.
Olly was served a glass of chilled milk with posthaste by the
servant staff before everyone being ushered in to see Lady
Oswynn and her retainers including a Monk of the Yellow Rose
Nornton. Queen Oswynn promptly paid the Company and laid out her
troubles - many villages had recently come under giant attack of
some kind in the last few weeks, and the city of Lyrabar had
their own problems with a Cloud Giant castle parked 1000 ft
above the city.
Queen Oswynn quickly explained that the nation was still
somewhat divided. Her ruling soft, leaving most of the local
districts to implement their own laws and not truly central
rule. It was more out of convenience and the size of Lyrabar
that the capitol and Queen be located here. Though the smaller
towns are less scrutinised, the largest cities mostly belong to
"The Lord's Alliance", a military alliance formed out of
necessity during the regular orc incursions of the past years,
though their politics are largely autonomous.
The only few leads they have, aside from the Castle, she said,
were that the city of Mornbryn's Shield had come under attack
by Fire Giants, Hill Giant sightings were becoming unsettlingly
common near the High Forest, and some Frost Giant raids along
the coast have broken any communication with select rural
fishing villages. Some survivors of the attack on Mornbryn's
Shield were taking resident in The Crown and Kettle, spending
their last silvers on ale.
Nornton, a hobbyist of Giant Lore and the region of Impiltur
mentioned that Lyrabar used to be home to an adventuring party
known as Force Grey. Though all of the adventurers had since
disappeared, the tales count a Frost Giant among the party -
called Harshnag. Nornton believes that Harshnag should still be
in the Impiltur region, he has called home for so long, and that
he may know what is happening.
Hypotheses for why the giants are coming out of hiding involved
reflecting on the ancient history of conflict between dragons
and giants. Before humans or elves were born, Giant-kind ruled
the world with their empire of Ostoria, which was eventually
brought to its knees through centuries of conflict between
giants and chromatic dragons.
Nornton also remarked on how there are not only Hill Giants,
whom Durango had already encountered. In fact, Hill Giants were
the lowest of the bunch, most stupid and driven only by their
stomachs. Giants keep their order through a stratified society
by a system called "The Ordning"
Storm
Cloud
Fire
Frost
Stone
Hill.
He also volunteers to divulge further knowledge about the giants
should the party be curious.
The party then went to The Crown and Kettle, encountering Trent
and Shaw, "survivors" of the Fire Giant attack. They told the
tale of how flaming giants stepped over the outer walls of the
settlement, squashed some buildings, then walked over the back
wall of the settlement, curiously doing nothing else. Trent and
Shaw saw this as enough to call-it-quits and move to Lyrabar,
but many of the locals decided to hire Zehntarim Agents,
mercenaries, known for their profiteering.
The party also met with an unfriendly woman called Kella. She
wanted nothing to do with the party and is apparently a
travelling monk.
Concluding that the party would decide to investigate Mornbryn's
Shield via Triboar the party would spend the night in the Crown
and Kettle, then leave in the morning on horses commissioned by
the party's new current patron the Queen of Impiltur.

Durango Daniel wakes up early, smoothes out his hair and
mustache, admires how clean Olly got his clothes, and heads
outside, taking a big breath of early morning air. He whistles a
peppy tune and kicks a rock along as he walks over to the
stables where Peppercorn is tied up. He tousles her mane and
then throws his blanket and saddle over her back, making sure
it's strapped on and all the saddlebags are secure. He walks her
over to the front of the inn and then leans up against the
doorpost to practice some decorative knots on a bit of rope from
his pack.
"Durango Daniel's all saddled up n' ready to ride!" He says
quietly to no one in particular.

Clunk throughout the night stares out the window watching the
nights watchman patrol the streets, quiet young men avoid these
officers at every turn. As the sun draws over the horizon,
Clunk notices the newest member of the Fallen Star Company, the
homely yet extreme talkative Durango go out to his horse.
Bending over and retrieving his gear, that lay haphazardly on
the floor next to his feet all except for his axe that lay shiny
and parallel to the edge of the table, Clunk goes down to the
cart. Finishing packing all his gear clunk looks up at the
castle in the sky and yearns for the first time since High
Imaskar. Clunk turns his head back to the horse and nods to
Durango and goes back inside to hurry up the rest of the party.

Departing from the wondrous city of Lyrabar and leaving the
Queen and your ship behind, the Fallen Star Company departs in
the morning, following a nice breakfast of toast with raspberry
jam and some porridge with honey (The Queen put you up in the
Crown and Kettle for free this night). With full stomachs, 3
draft horses named Jerry, Richard, and Hugo, and a cart, the
party hits the road. It is foggy as the sun begins to rise
properly and you can feel the cold (especially Popo), though the
fog dissipates not long after your journey began. The road
between Lyrabar and Rassalantar seems well travelled. Some other
folk are making the journey with you out of coincidence. It
should take about 6 hours to travel the distance.
The travellers are a group of 4 dwarves as well as two rock
gnomes, come to Lyrabar to trade in iron, coal, and copper ores.
Their yak pulls a cart filled with some minerals and the leader
George Lafferty speaks with a heavy accent. "We've just been in
Lyrabar to trade some of our ores - best you can find this side
of the Thunder Mountains. Some of the smaller towns out this
way'll be wantin' quality coal for the cold winter nights."
Passing by primarily farmsteads with walled or fenced fields,
this area seems to be doing well, despite it now being the 19th
of Nightall (December). Some farmers greet you as you travel
along the roads, as they appear to be taking care of animals.
Though cold, the ground does not appear to have frozen over yet
- maybe a "warmer" winter or it has yet to properly arrive.
Without incident the party arrives in Rassalantar nearing
sundown - a small quiet village there are a dozen huts or so, a
barracks with the Royal Insignia, a keep which appears to be in
disrepair, and a cozy tavern called "The Sleeping Dragon". Some
guards, similar looking to those in Lyrabar watch you as you
walk through the city gate (though walls do not surround the
village, there is a fortified portcullis on the road).

Looking the dwarfs up and down Clunk says "You are not afraid of
the rumors and stories of Giant men attacking and killing
people? "
