She is on our property? I sort of lost track of traveling.
Distance to village and also to castle?

You had to walk about 7 miles to get to her from the village,
and you'd guess she's about 15 miles from the castle

'Well, Geoffrey, I think we need to learn more about this
wbitch. If she means any harm to our soon to be citizens, then
we'd be remiss to ignore her.'
After walking away with Clunk and Edwina, I address the girl,
"Are you well, how did this old woman treat you?"

Edwina looks at you with wide eyes while gnawing on her bread,
and then looks around nervously at all of you as if seeing you
for the first time. Then she looks back at the tree and starts
to cry.

Asmundr, intrigued by her strange reaction starts playing
Countercharm music, I try to consul her.
*As an action, you can start a performance that lasts until
the end o f your next turn. During that time, you and any
friendly creatures within 30 feet o f you have advantage
on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.*
"It's ok, we are here to rescue you and bring you back to your
family!"

She seems placated and even fascinated by your music, but as you
mention her family she begins crying again and squeezing her
hunk of bread.
Just then, you see two miniature translucent humans, a man and a
woman, appear on Edwina's shoulder and walk towards her cheek,
before fading away. As they fade, the hunk of bread bursts into
flames, and Edwina yelps and hurls it away into the forest.

Oh, did we know her family is dead? I probably wouldn't have
said that then.

No, the villagers made no previous mention of her family being
dead.

Asmundr casts Calm Emotions, saying "Here, here little princess,
you are safe now, we have come to rescue you! The people from
you village have sent us. How can we help you princess?" Asmundr
asks with a smile.

Edwina stares at you for a moment, her grimy face furrowed with
uncertainty, her mouth opening and closing but making no sound.
Finally, she squeaks out a quiet, "Please, can I sleep, sir?"
