The Honor of the King
By: Okakouta Date: July 15, 2016, 6:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
After defeating the sirens and having the un Taig ship sail up
next to you, the Hang 'em High sails calmly towards the eastern
edge of the island. The apparent leader of the ship who spoke to
you earlier motions you all to come to the coast. He makes a
series of signs, which could be interpreted as a signal for
something, but you find them mostly indecipherable. The man,
along with the cloaked figure, who appeared to have quelled the
storm and several other men and women climb aboard a smaller
boat, which they row to shore.
Upon reaching the shore, the leader removes some small amount of
provisions along with a few chairs. They stuff the items into
the sand and remove the heavy soaked rain cloaks, throwing them
onto some rocks.
Assuming the party follows him to the shore, the leader eyes
over the party. You hear whispers from some of the men behind
him mentioning the words "metal suite". After a few more moments
the leader nods, as if having decided on something. The wind has
mostly died down, but it still causes the cloaks to flutter and
the sea to make a muted crashing sound a few feet away from
where you stand. "Metal Man, why do you lead your group of
interesting individuals to our shores?" says the leader. "Not
that we do not accept outsiders, but the people would be upset
if we did not defend our shores."

Viri steps forward and does a brief bow towards the leader, and
then says, "My lord, (assuming he is a lord, using my court
functionary background trait), my name is Dom Viriato de
Asturios, Captain of the Senhora Rosalie, the smaller of the two
vessels you escorted to your shores. My companions are members
of the Fallen Star Company, of Vaasan fame. My metallic
associate, Clunk, has our documentation, if you would like to
see it. We were directed here by the druid Gremion, in order
that we might return the sword of the great warrior Ungrag, who
fell to the talons of the Archgriffin." Viri withdraws Ungrag's
sword from his belt to show to the leader. "If it please my
lord, we would like to be able to present the sword to Ungrag's
family ourselves, as it was our party that found the fallen
hero, and that avenged him by slaying the great beast."

Popo says solemnly and with sympathy, "Hey man, sorry to hear
about your board-bud Ungrag... we paddled out as quick as a
bottlenose, but we were too late to stop the waves of that great
griffon from giving him a final mullering. We burried him on top
of tha mountain, and payed our respects. I wrote his epitaph
myself, I doubt it captures well enough such a righteous and
bodacious dude."

The leader places his hands on his hips, pushing back is warm
cloak. The belt is made of a brilliant metal, glimmering in the
sunlight, streaming through the remaining clouds. The hilt and
pommel appear to be of a similar make to the sword Viri
produced, although the leader's hilt is considerably more
ornate, with a deep blue gem set into the end. "I find that
often measuring a man for his character is far superior to any
documentation." He smiles, "firstly I noticed you dispatched
some sirens - that is already worth a meal in my Kaer - those
devious witches." Some of the crew behind him laugh. "Second,
Gremion does not place his faith in everyone freely, and as a
response to your request, I find it unlikely a thief or coward
would wish to do such a noble thing." He places his right arm
out in an 'L' shape bending at the elbow, with the fist pointing
skyward.
With confidence he says "I am Harvald un Taig, the Jarl of Tan,
leader of the Clan un Taig and ruler of Kaer Trolde." With a
glance and a nod, the crew behind him begin unpacking some of
the provisions and produce a few small stools, which get
promptly wedged into the sand. Harvald sits down on such a stool
and produces a tankard from his belt, opposite the sword. A
barrel gets wheeled over, and as his mug is filled, he motions
for you all to sit with him.
"The best talk is done with the best mead! Now," he clear his
throat after gulping down some mead, "Sergil will be upset with
the news of her son's passing. But rightfully so, you should
recount the tale and present the sword to her. In this way you
honor his memory, and in doing so you honor yourselves. The way
of the warrior, and The Circle of all things says we must perish
someday - so may it be on the battlefield."
Harvald turns to Popo and laughs, "if your words were earnest
and true, then they do him honor. Although you may need to
translate for the common folk. Our ways are mostly simple, and
our words reflect this. As such I have never heard of Vaasa, nor
your Company."
As he says this, the cloaked man whom you saw earlier on the
boat walks up behind Harvald. He lowers his hood to reveal a
hairless face, with pointed ears and steely blue eyes. His voice
rather deep, "I however do know some about your company. The
shockwaves of the events in Vaasa were felt throughout the
world, and Freya wept for the destruction, as well as some
altercations in Gulthandor. But as I understand it, the Fallen
Star Company had disbanded following the events. However the
Metal Man, Clunk, is known in whispers even in The Western
Cirlce." He bows slightly to Clunk. "My name is Diego,
previously an apprentice of Master Gremion of the Western
Circle."
"Diego and the druids of The Western Cirlce are trusted advisers
to the people of the Western Isles, and are helpful in
controlling some of the threats from Gulthandor, like that storm
you experienced." Harvald adds. "I hereby give your Company
passage on the water-ways and land of the Western Isles."

You might notice Olly abstains from imbibing the mead, opting
instead for milk.

Clunk nods replying "Greetings Diego! Disbanded no! Went our
separate ways, each a man (or women) of great passion and great
vigor. We all had different considerable trials to complete."
Clunk's fist Slams into his chest right at his chest level. "We
are the Fallen Star company, the shooting star division,
whatever is our goal, it will be completed. As our silver
tongued noble as said we are here to give peace to Ungrags
family."

"It is an honor, Jarl Harvald," Viri says as he takes his seat
in the circle of stools. "I have heard much and more of you and
your people in my travels." (Assuming I have since being around
the Western Isles for a while) "My people, the sons and
daughters of Aglarond, keep similar traditions. To die in
defense of one's way of life is a glorious thing indeed. Though,
for my people, too often death is not the end."
As Diego introduces himself, Viri nods and says, "I assume that
the crackling bolts striking the foe-creatures from the sky was
your doing! Well met, master Druid." Turning to Clunk, Viri
says, "I could not have introduced our company better myself."
"We thank you for your passage, Jarl Harvald," Viri says, bowing
his head. "And as much as my company and I are in agreement
about the qualities of good ale, I am a bit eager to complete
our solemn task. It would not do to keep a mother waiting to
hear the fate of her son. Would you be so kind as to point us in
the right direction, my lord?"

Diego's rather emotionless face turns up slightly when Clunk
shows so much dedication. "Where I come from people don't
normally show so much passion." His face quickly returns to its
resting position, "although I do not recognize many of the new
faces, it is nonetheless good that your renowned company has
reunited."
*Viri, you know a fair amount of the people of the Western
Isles. Due to their heavy influences from Gulthandor (and an
ongoing 'rivalry') the people of the Western Isles have
developed a different culture from those of other islands
near-by, but as you rightly point out, it is not entirely
foreign in their customs.*
Diego opens his crossed arms when offering your thanks. After
which Harvald, previously staring into the sand, quickly looks
up, "indeed you are right Dom, there will be time to celebrate
later. If you are remaining on the islands, I invite you to
Trolde in several nights time to join in some festivities."
He pulls his stool up out of the sand while standing up and
gives it a little shake. "I wish you well on your quest." He
turns and walks out of the ring and begins talking with a pair
of his men. They begin packing a few things into a wooden crate.

After the group parts from the Jarl, rather than heading back to
the ship Olly goes full owl-form and surveys the nearby land,
trying to get acclimated. He is especially on the lookout for
flying mer-beasts.

"Without passion what is the reason to live? Revenge?
Cowardliness? I do not see that in you, Diego! I see Courage and
wisdom. Great traits, traits that the Fallen Star Company would
love to have apart of it!" Clunk Exclaims.
Seeing Harvald leave Clunk looks to the party, With our guests
leaving we should leave as well. Best not to keep the family
waiting.
Turning back to Diego "If you wish to spread your wings and fly,
I will always have a place for you."
