Popo takes out a guitar/mandolin and says, "Here's one you
little dudes might enjoy, join in when you catch the break." He
begins playing:

"Ahoy there Pop-Pop, me name is Olly and yes I am studying
medicinal herbs, yer quite familiar with the quality stock of
the region I take it?"
Olly doesn't understand half of Popo is talking about and
becomes slightly suspicious at his mention of the prey item
'bunnies' in reference to Captain Swift- but is sold by his
excellent performance and happily joins in on the song, clapping
and adding in "hoot-a hoot-a"

"Ah, chyah! These islands got some gnarly pipestuffs man. I've
been shredding these shores for years now."

-after the song, before the beast-sighting-
"I'm looking forward to you showing me any herbs with a potent
medicinal quality once we set foot on land. Do you happen to
know any more about these in particular?" Olly opens the field
book and points to drawings of various herbs and also inquires
about the poultices derived from each.
(I'm assuming these the herbs herbs outside of Olly's
preexisting Medicine proficiency knowledge.)

It all starts to make sense to Olly, the symbols, totems, music,
and most of all the pipe smoking-"you must be a powerful shaman
amongst your people!"

"Yeah... I guess some people say that. Fer shur." Popo nods
confidently in agreement.

-after the prior enlightening exchange-
Olly instinctually scuttles to find safety behind Clunk from the
aerial predator (acrobatics 0+4(PRO)=4) and trips over some
rigging to somersault onto his back - now facing upwards at the
beast he puts his hands up to shield himself"

Taking this threat seriously Olly recovers, does a kip-up,
(Acrobatics 1d20 (3)+(4)=(7)) and then rifles through the field
guide for lures and traps that may apply to cattle consuming
lion-eagles.
