Clunk's massive metal hands wrap around Lokir's trailing fur
cloak, causing him to jerk backwards a few feet from Raedwald.
He drops his dagger, which clatters loudly on the stone floor,
and reaches up to his neck, grasping for the clasp of his cloak.
Raedwald spins around and slams Lokir in the chest with the back
of his fist. The blow is delivered with such force that Lokir
flies backwards, the clasp of his cloak snapping, and skids to a
stop near the foot of Raedwald's throne, gasping for breath.
Raedwald stands then, and begins to walk towards Lokir, who
seems to have had the wind thoroughly knocked out of him.
"Why do you hasten towards your demise, Lokir?" Raedwald says in
a low, seething voice. He reaches up into the air in front of
him, and slowly pulls downward. As he does so, you see a dark
greatsword materialize in his outstretched hand, as if he were
pulling it out of a point in space. The room suddenly seems
darker, and the flames of the candles begin to flicker and fade.
The air around the sword itself seems devoid of light, as if the
sword were consuming all brightness.
"I had thought of granting you mercy for your aid in recovering
Mila, but this treachery cannot be forgiven." As he strides
forth with his sword in his right hand, Raedwald waves his left
hand forward, and the doors close behind you. The room goes
entirely dark now, and even those of you who are accustomed to
dark conditions cannot discern Raedwald or Lokir.
You hear Raedwalds heavy steps on the stone floor, and Lokir's
gasping and spluttering. The footsteps stop, and then you hear
the breathing become much more rapid and hear squeaks and rasps,
as if Lokir were attempting to say something. You then here the
fleshy flapping of a blade biting into flesh and bone, followed
by a sickening splattering and splashing, and finally a heavy
thud.
All is quiet then, but for your own party's breathing, and the
creaking of clothes and armor. The silence seems to last an
eternity, before finally, alarmingly close, you each hear:
"Now, what should be done with you?"

"Lord Raewald, it was our mission to gain contact with the
Ironfell Council. The... shield-maidens and armies of Cormyr and
Damara are failing to hold back the onslaught of demons and
undead. Even now the Bloodstone Pass is likely overrun. The
hordes make for the Ironfell with haste. Bane seeks to sit on
the throne of Vaasa, Damara, Cormyr, Grand Halen, and all of
Faerun." Asmundr pauses briefly for dramatic effect, "There is
word that Castle Perilous is awakening. Come show your might
against Bane, we must rally Vaasa's forces to meet him head-on!
Rally the Ironfell council and show Bane that Vaasa to be
feared! Our guide Lokir turned out to be more sour than we had
suspected, we don't know our way through your lands. We beseech
you Lord Raewald, lead us in our quest, lead us to victory!"

"The Ironfell Council would have turned you to ash where you
stood had you dared to speak to them, boy." You hear Raedwald's
voice all around you now, as if he is circling your group. His
heavy footfalls bounce around the empty stone room. Still, none
of you can see where he is. All is darkness, impenetrable by
even Geoffrey's eyes.
"You will find no help in Vaasa. Let the northern Lords fight
for the glory of conquering Castle Perilous. I will have no
part. I would split you all like hogs for bringing that traitor
into my midst, were it not for your aid in recovering the girl."
The footsteps stop, and Raedwald is quiet, and then says, "Or
perhaps you doubt me? Perhaps you think you can defeat me in
battle? Lokir certainly thought so, or else I doubt he would
have ever come back to this place. Perhaps a demonstration is in
order."
Again, all is quiet for a moment, but for your own breathing. It
sounds as though Mila is whimpering. Then, you hear Raedwald
say, "Say goodbye to your precious knight."
The stillness of the darkness is broken as a sword is drawn. You
hear steel snap and clatter, and a cry from Thirteen, and Mila
screams: "STOOOOPP!!!"
Suddenly, the darkness is lifted, and you watch as it retreats
into Raedwald's blade, which is pressed against Thirteen's
forehead. Thirteen stands shaking, with his broken sword raised
above his head in a futile attempt to parry Raedwald's blow.
Around Thirteen's waist is Mila, clinging to him desperately and
crying. Raedwald stands perfectly still, mid-swing, staring at
Mila. His face is pale and blank.

"We stand no match against you my liege, that is sure. You may
even be able to match the might of Bane the Destoyer himself.
But when he and his hordes swarm through the Vaasan gate, your
people will be destoyed. The women, the children, innocents will
be slaughtered... Mila will find no protection in your castle
walls. Bane has no heart my lord, not like you with your just
sensibilities, Bane will destroy all that are in his way. Look
to the West my Lord, see what host marches towards your lands,
meet his forces with the might of the Ironfell council, like in
the ancient days."

Clunk stands behind Asmundr and staring blankly at the warlock
Knight and Thirteen. Showing no emotion, face like iron. Hands
are at my sides, completely relaxed. Eyes Straight black, with
the smallest hint of color.

Thirteen falls to his knees, mouth agape and still shaking, and
you can see now a thin red line down the middle of his forehead
from Raedwald's blade. Had Mila not intervened, he certainly
would have been cleaved in half. Billy rushes to his side to
steady him.
Raedwald also drops to his knees, and his sword falls from his
hand, and disappears as shadow fading before light. He extends
his hands to Mila, and says, in a voice no longer booming, but
quiet and soft, "My child, why...?"
Mila, still tightly gripping Thirteen's waist and crying, turns
and slaps Raedwald's massive hands away. "They... h-help
people!! With magic!!" Mila says angrily, between sobs. "All
y-you do is HURT!!" She stands defiantly between Thirteen and
Raedwald, who is still quite a bit taller than her, slumped and
on his knees as he is.
Raedwald stares back, his face a mix of disbelief and pain. He
is a silent for a long time, and then says, "...I cannot. I see
now that I must help you. For their sake. But neither I nor any
of the other Warlock Knights of Vaasa may leave this wretched
land. We are bound to the Ironfell by our rings of power. If we
leave..." He looks at Mila again and then stifles a sob with a
gloved hand. He is silent again for a moment, then says, "You
will receive no help from the Council either. Their minds are
twisted by the Ironfell. Their will is not their own, and they
will destroy any who attempt to set foot on that accursed metal
sphere, fearing that they might try to take that power for
themselves."

"Lord Raedwald, it is our mission to seek the Ironfell Council.
If you think that is an impossible mission, then we can offer
our assistance, and are eager to follow your lead in the Defence
of Vaasa."

"Lord Raedwald, Sir it would be of great help if you could offer
us assistance in the defense of Damara. Even if you yourself
cannot be of direct help aiding us indirectly would allow for
the improvement of relations between your two States. And with
Damara going to require support and help with rebuilding after
our victory you could make much personal wealth and political
power providing pillars of support to the ravished nation. I
ask of you that you provide what troop support or strategic
advice that im sure someone of you status has in order to stop
Bane and defeat his monstrous horde."

Raedwald lets out a subdued laugh. "I am no commander. I am a
warrior. Do you see anything besides starving peasants in this
town? A barracks? Guards or attendant bannermen in my castle?
'War' in Vassa is fought between two Warlock Knights,
one-on-one. Whoever sent you on such a mission must have been a
desperate fool. The southern kingdoms should know well by now
that no envoy of theirs has ever returned: the Iron Wardens
smash them to pulp before they even come close to the Great
Stair. The Ironfell Council may have the power to erase Bane and
his armies from this plane, but they will not lend it to your
cause."
Raedwald looks back to Mila, and, seeing tears streaking her
dirt-smudged face, he passes his left hand in front of her, and
you see her skin and hair and clothes become clean before your
eyes. Raedwald then looks over his shoulder at the mutilated
corpses of the two men he has just killed, and then stands
suddenly, and with a great and painful roar, smashes his fist
into a nearby wall. The stone splits and cracks in several
places, and the whole building trembles as mortar dust rains
from the ceiling.
"No, I will help you, young ones. If not for the Southern Kings,
then for my own people. The Ironfell Council will not give of
their power. But, if you are feeling that boldness and daring
that often occupy young minds, we may be able to take it from
them."

"I have seen many leaders great and small. It is not always in
showing your power but in how you use it, which proves
greatness. In helping us you secure a more prosperous future for
your kingdom and your people. We and little Milia would thank
you."
