*Perhaps I should have posted before this* ---- Upon Raedwald's
entrance: "Knight Raedwald, you must forgive me for saying this,
but I am no master tactician - but surely why would such a group
leave their fortified position? What possible bait could we
offer them? Furthermore, what do we gain from using this cannon
at all? I do not see any target which would tip the balance of
power in our overall endeavour, aside from an army beyond even
the sight of this tower."
In a slight jump of surprise, Geoffrey inspects his bag to find
the stone strangely humming. He excuses himself from other
company and motions for Asmundr to listen to Raedwald's answer.
Skeptical, but in no position to refuse information, he braves
what the stone has to offer. Preparing himself for the worst,
while hoping for the best, Geoffrey tries to make no indication
regarding the situation to avoid alarming or triggering any of
the remaining group.

Realizing what he sees is an illusion, Clunk decides to follow
the illusion through the portal to the frozen wastes.

Raedwald laughs grimly at your insights. "Of course... The
demons and the dead. Let us not forget your goal here. It is
true, Damara is out of sight beyond those mountains. If only we
could see over them... I suppose one of us could climb to the
peak of one of the intervening mountains and act as a marker:
"Fire Here!" But those mountains are treacherous even in the
best of times, and whoever did so would likely be consigning
themselves to annihilation, if not by this weapon then by the
mountain itself. As for the council, it was my understanding
that you sought to intimidate them into working for you, or at
least to take their power for your own. I have a vested
interested in the latter, of course, but it is something I think
I may be able to accomplish without the use of this weapon."
As you fade quietly away from the group and behind some boxes,
you hear Snake Eater's voice echoing faintly in your mind:
"Agent... What is your status? Have you discovered what is
happening at Castle Perilous?"
-------------------------
Meanwhile, elsewhere...
-------------------------
As you approach the portal, you again hit something solid. It
feels as though there is a wall where there should not be.
The illusion then switches from your old mustering ground to the
day you were activated. You and hundreds like you are being
carefully inspected by Lilty technicians, and looking around you
recognize a few of your old squadmates.

Feeling the wall, Clunk feels around the wall to find a door or
window out of the hidden surroundings.
I make a perception check d20+wis (11+2)=13
The ever changing world around me twists and turns as it uses my
already fragmented memory. This factory, this place of origin
brings a grimace to my face. In a clear voice Clunk shouts "You
do not know me, your twisted illusions will not cause me pain. I
am stronger, I am what I was made to be, I am a warrior."

*Wait, you're Clunk... you'd "feel" around the wall? Why would a
wall stop you?*

Geoffrey looks surprised as the stone speaks, although not too
surprised. He examines it once again.
"Fortuitous timing Snake Eater, in-fact some of my party have
managed to infiltrate the 'Castle'. If you're unaware it is
rather a spire than a castle, much easier to control
strategically, from a tactics point of view.
Now with regards to its state we've found some rather
fantastical things you wouldn't easily believe, a weapon of some
sorts to start. Before I divulge everything however, the
information trade is all based on trust. I've ventured into
these hostile and unforgiving lands, come face-to-face with a
warlock knight, so I think it's your turn to tell me what I want
to know."

Though most of the wall feels rather smooth, at one point you
notice a slight gap. Running your hands up and down it, it seems
to go from floor to ceiling. Your surmise that this may be a
door, or at least a weak point.
-----------------------
Meanwhile, in Castle Perilous...
-----------------------
The stone is silent momentarily, and then again you hear Snake
Eaters voice being projected into your mind.
"Very well, Agent. You've done well, and I'll answer what you
wish. Do know, however, that it is not entirely up to me what
information I can divulge. My associates will ask me to remain
tight-lipped on certain subjects. But ask away."

Clunk moves his hand around the wall trying to find the knob,
when he finds it, he does want any sensible person would do. He
opens the door proclaiming when he enters "What do you want from
me?! Who are you, How do you know my mind!"

"I understand Snake Eater, but I hope that you'll also value the
situation I've been thrust into. My first question would simply
be to understand who you represent and your motivations for
finding the Castle. I'd like to know more about to whom I
divulge rather sensitive information.
"As you may anticipate, I also would wish to know what
information you have dangled as a carrot before me - what has
become of Dambrath?
"I have little way of knowing you tell the truth in any of these
matters. But I ask that you do not lie - neither of us would
appreciate it."

Though you move around seemingly the entire room, you find it
contains no knob to speak of. There is only the single gap that
you had found previously. The room is about ten feet on each
side, and ten feet high as well.
-------------------
Meanwhile, in Castle Perilous
-------------------
"Very well. We've been known by many names, the last being
Oculus Mundi during the heyday of High Imaskar. That was long
before you were even born, though... I suppose you are familiar
with the group known as The Harpers? You might think of them as
our deluded offspring. Where they seek an end to the tyranny of
mortal rulers, we see that there are much larger threats to this
world. We watch from the shadows, safeguarding this world and
its inhabitants from the terrors of the far realms, by any means
necessary. Rather live in a tyrannical world than one torn to
pieces by astral power struggles, wouldn't you say?
As far as our motivation for finding the Castle, you were simply
confirming what we had already suspected. I'm sure you
encountered some strange creatures at the Castle. As you may
have guessed, they are not of this world, and they have no love
for it either. They seek to destroy the object known as "the
Ironfell", to prevent it from falling into more sinister hands.
While they are right that the Ironfell cannot fall to its old
masters, their methods are unacceptable. Destroying the Ironfell
would see our world consumed by Arcane Fire, and I'm sure we can
agree that that would not be to anyone's liking, hm?
As for Dambrath... As I said, we don't normally concern
ourselves with politics, so we don't have all the information
that you might wish. But I can tell you that they seem to be
moving for an alliance with the Shou. Many Shou courtiers have
appeared in the capital, and Baron Luenath seeks to solidify
this alliance with a marriage between a Prince of the Shou
Empire and his daughter Elincia. That last bit might be of
particular interest to you. The reason we have been monitoring
this situation is that we worry that the Scholars of the Red
Tower, the Shou's preeminent arcane researchers, will seek to
interfere with our plans regarding the Ironfell.
I have told you what truth I can, and what might be most
relevant to you. If you seek more information, or simply believe
that our cause is important, if not righteous, then I ask that
you perform one additional task for us: stop the Ironfell
Council from using the energies of the Ironfell. We are not sure
what they are doing in their iron keep, but we believe that
their actions are the reason that the Ironfell has been
attracting so much unwanted attention as of late. I know that
this is not exactly in line with your desire to save the peoples
of Damara and Cormyr, but we believe that the Avatar of Bane and
the Lich of Thay are being drawn to these same energies, so
perhaps removing that bait would earn your allies a reprieve in
the fight.
As you know, what I ask is no small task, but I assure you that
successful completion of it is of the utmost importance, and
that we would be very grateful if you were to do this for us.
And our gratitude is certainly something you want. To aid you in
this task, I suggest you find the craft that brought our
otherworldly visitors here. It is likely not far from where you
are now."
