So, here's what happened during our r20 session, for those who
missed it:
The party defeated the aliens, although in the process, Clunk
was teleported to some unknown location. The party entered
Castle Perilous to find it filled with crates and magical
artifacts concentrating arcane energy towards the very top of
the tower. Upon close inspection, it seems that the aliens had
constructed some sort of large deathray, a scaled up version of
their portable weapons, capable of concentrating arcane energy
into a focused, destructive beam. They had it aimed at the
Ironfell, apparently intent on destroying the massive source of
arcane power. Lyrina, being the only member of the party attuned
to arcane energy, is the only one who seems to be able to
operate this awesome weapon. The party, however, decided to wait
a day before making a decision, to see if their wayward Warlock
Knight guide, Raedwald, would appear.
And so:
Around the middle of the day, Raedwald bursts through the front
door of the tower. He has several bandages wrapped around his
limbs and head, but his clothes appear completely undamaged.
"Ah, my friends! I am glad to see that you are well. Well...
most of you anyway... It seems your metal companion was
teleported to some unknown location. The scars of this
teleportation indicate that he hasn't been sent terribly far...
Within walking distance of this place, even. Still, the ability
to teleport others... whatever these creatures are, they are
most powerful arcanists." He steps further into the tower and
investigates the various conduits and boxes. "This is... All
quite new to me... When I came here many weeks ago, there was no
sign of any of this. I wonder where these creatures could have
been hiding with so many supplies?" He scratches his head, and
then turns to you and asks, "So, have you discovered what these
creatures were up to? Is there anything here that we might use
against the Iron Council?"

In the dark hellish land that I have been banished too. I scan
the horizon for any evidence of escape. (If I see one I move
toward it) not seeing one, I decide to slowly move onward.
Moving forward until the moment I notice any form of movement.

*ATTENTION: Because of the difficulty in retrieving a PC from a
planeshift spell, I've decided to alter the result. I've altered
Raedwald's comments about Clunk's fate above to reflect this.
However, Clunk still sees the same hellish landscape before
him.*
As you reach the edge of the floating rock you landed on, you
suddenly freeze. Your entire body is suddenly paralyzed. Then
you notice that the ground beneath you is crumbling, and, try as
you might, you are unable to regain control of your limbs. You
plummet into the darkness below.
Things get very dark and very cold then, and you begin to hear
familiar voices... The voices of your old squadmates, who were
slaughtered so long ago...

"S44-86292, we placed our trust in you"
"Sergeant, Help ARGHGHGHGHG!"
"Why are you the one who survived?"
"Sergeant, you said you would protect us!"
"I tried" Clunk barely stumbles out "I, I, I couldn't help. It
was too monstrous."
They all cry out "Failure. Failure. Failure. You're only good at
a single thing, sergeant, letting the ones you care about die."

Suddenly, the scene shifts, and you feel the warmth of the Sun
on your metallic body, and the grit of sandstone beneath you.
Looking up, you see that you are in your old mustering grounds,
the day you were to go through the portal to the North with your
squad. Around you are all the great Lilty buildings just as you
remember them, shining and new and whole. And before you is the
teleporter, swirling with magical energy, flickering with images
of far away snow. But where you remember your squad standing,
there is only a pile of broken pieces, twisted arms and
shattered skulls, leaking oil and hydraulic fluid.

"Raedwald, we are so relieved to see you." *Of course we were
essentially discussing destroying him and all the Warlock
Knights the night before.* "We have found that this structure is
something like a giant arcane siege weapon. We were just about
to pull the trigger on the accursed moon. Those three pink stars
we also considered, and also the ironfell council itself. We
decided that if we do not use this weapon with haste, our
grey-skinned foes would be back with force. If we do not use it
now, we would do well to destroy it."

Raedwald's eyes widen as you suggest targets for this weapon. He
strokes his beard, and then says, finally, "The moon, eh?
Perhaps this weapon has the power... The energy it is emitting
is certainly immense... As many of you know, many humans of this
region hold in their mythology
HTML http://dndgurnee.createaforum.com/the-world/religion/msg1165/#msg1165<br
/>the moon to be a great source of misfortune. While it has been
many years since I prescribed to such beliefs, it certainly
holds some sort of wicked energy... But what would happen were
it destroyed? Would this energy be destroyed with it, or merely
released? And would not the debris rain upon this world? These
are questions even I do not know the answers to..." He kneads
his temples for a moment, and then says, "As for those stars...
While they are certainly disconcerting, they are incredibly
small targets... And even if we managed to hit them, how would
we know what effect this weapon would have? They are but points
of light, we can see no details. Now, the Ironfell Council,
while powerful, I believe could certainly be destroyed by such a
weapon... But I fear that attempting to destroy them while they
are in their castle atop the Ironfell could end very badly...
Were we to accidentally hit the Ironfell, the confluence of this
great arcane energy with the power of the Ironfell could wreak
horrible destruction on this land. But perhaps if we were to
lure them out into the open?"

At the sudden change of scenery Clunks face could only be
described confused. In a brief moment a smile appeared on my
face but as quickly as it appeared it was replaced by a mostly
horrific frown. In a strange twist of fate the once beloved
place of rest and training lost its entire capacity for
nostalgia. Muttering "Not like this" I lift my Axe towards the
illusion surrounding me and attack the walls of my once
cherished residence.

You swing your axe in a mighty arc, but it smashes into
something solid, though it appears to you that nothing is there.
Then you begin to notice that everything looks a bit strange.
You think that you may be trapped in an illusion.
---------------------
Meanwhile, in Castle Perilous...
---------------------
Geoffrey feels a psychic pulse emanating from the stone eye
which was given to him by Snake Eater.
