       The Bloody Night
By: Duncan Seastove Date: August 20, 2015, 10:07 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Last we left off, Geoffrey, Lyrina, Gasputin, and Si'Thuum had
just arrived at the secret encampment of Queen Anneliese Oswynn,
figurehead of the rebellion in Impiltur, nestled in a vale in
the Earthspur Mountains east of Dragon Falls. The Queen knighted
Si'Thuum for his part in slaying the wyvern which had been
terrorizing the local wildlife and villagers. Their mission was
to ensure that the way to Impiltur was clear, so that the people
of Dragon Falls could be evacuated before the undead army which
had attacked Grand Halen came for them.
It is twilight now in the vale, and the quiet of the snowy
landscape settles in. The knights of the Queensguard speak in
hushed voices while the villagers go about their evening
routines. Somewhere not too far off you hear the call of a
caribou. The pines and tents rustle gently in a cold breeze, and
little drifts of snow flow around your ankles. The wind caries
with it smoke from a cookfire, and you can smell with it the
hints of a meaty stew being cooked somewhere in the village. To
the east, you can see bright, twinkling stars hung in the purple
sky above jagged, snow-capped peaks. As ever, the red moon
pulses overhead, even this early in the night, a constant
reminder of the ill omen it brings with it.

Asmundr attempts to find Macky's tent or wherever she's staying,
maybe that's on the ship? Anyways, he coos to where Macky is
staying, "Mackenzie, would though wisheth to accompany me on a
       midnight stroll?*"
*The archaic/biblical-english words thrown into Asmundr's
language should be interpreted as sprinklings of Celestial, in
order to create an effect that is otherworldly, enchanting,
       pure, and heavenly.

*to be clear, David, you are still in Dragon Falls, charged with
guarding Rognvaldr and Chryseres until Raul sends word that the
way is clear. It's far less peaceful there, with people hurrying
to and fro to shore up the towns defenses before the undead army
attacks. You can still find the swift sisters though, if you
       wish.*

Of course I find the swift sisters.

You figure that, along with the rest of the common folk, the
Swift sisters have been pulled inside the castle courtyard for
the night. The courtyard is thronged with huddles of townsfolk
whispering nervous rumors about what's been happening, while
guards and knights attempt to shoulder their way through to
mount a defense. You hear some say that this is the wrath of the
gods delivered on an un-pious people, while other concede that
this is merely the lot of those who live under the Blood Moon.
Looking up into the night sky, you see that, indeed, the
secondary red moon is even brighter than before.
Eventually you find the sisters, huddled beside the stable.
Though the oldest sister, Ellie, stands over her sisters warily,
you sense fear in all of them. Before you can speak to them,
however, a call goes up from the guards in the village bellow.
       "Riders approaching!!"

Geoffrey approaches the Queensguards and politely asks: "May we
also set up camp here Sirs? I understand this situation is
delicate, but we would prefer not to travel at night."

The Queensguard open their huddle slightly, and one of them, a
tall knight with a blue surcoat emblazoned with a silver ram's
head, turns to you and says, "You are, of course, free to camp
where you choose. But, you will understand if we hold your
weapons for you, until whenever you choose to depart." His
manner is easy and friendly, but you sense uneasiness in his
       voice.

*Isn't our ship still docked on the river by the Dragon Falls?
Have we seen Blaster, seeing as the Bar College is right next to
       here?*
"I'm happy to see that you ladies are doing well, I wish I knew
what was the safest path for you to take in these dangerous
times." Asmundr speaks with his usual charismatic vibrancy, but
       with undertones of nervous uncertainty.

*Your ship is still docked on the river by Dragon Falls, but a
few hours outside of town. The others never went to look for
Blaster, and he has otherwise not appeared.*
Sarah, the second youngest sister, tugs at Ellie's pant leg, and
whisper nervously, "What if the riders that guard is yelling
about are those zombies, come to get us again?"
Ellie kneels down and strokes her sisters hair. "Don't fret,
Ellie. This castle has very high walls, and brave knights. They
       won't get us here."
"Bardertown had those as well..." Macky says quietly.
Ellie turns sharply towards Macky, but before she can speak, a
cry goes up from the guards on the castle walls: "Open the
       gates! Riders coming up!"
Several men move to unbar the gate, and the crowd of townspeople
back away nervously. The sisters huddle close to one another.
The gates are pulled open, and through them ride several haggard
looking buards, as well as many townsfolk. You recognize a few—
Balon, the bouncer from the Winking Maiden; Tygart, a buard who
       used to stop into the Adventures End to enjoy your performances;
a clerk from the city hall whose name you can't remember... But
most importantly, you notice Aisha, the only female buard,
daughter of Commander Shepard, with her mother, Nira, and
       younger brother, Askari.
Aisha spots you immediately, dismounts her horse and hurries
toward you. Her armor is dinted and caked in what appears to be
mud, perhaps blood. One of her shoulder plates is missing. Her
bright brown eyes peer at you from a face smudged with sweat and
dirt. She wears the same determined expression that you are
familiar with, but you see exhaustion and desperation in her
       face.
"Asmundr. Where is the king? Where is my father?"

Although we never said, I'd assume Asmudr knows where the King
       and his guard are, right?
"Aisha, I'm glad to see that you made it out of the fray, your
combat prowess is yet again unchallenged. The King and his
retainers are stationed in the keep with Lord Pendragon. We have
met up with Queen Oswynn for mutual protection."
"Come, it looks as though you are in some haste. Let us brief
       with the King."
At this point Asmundr attempts to re-evaluate Aisha's
attractiveness. Does she look more or less attractive in her
ruffled, battle-worn, and concentrated state? Out of 10. Also,
does Asmundr out-rank Aisha? What is Asmundr's rank anyways?
What are the ranks of the Buard system?
