       The Knights Penitent

       The Knights Penitent is an order of knights composed of former
       criminals who are eager to wash away their sins in the eyes of
       their various gods. Their order is centered in Skyclave, capital
       of High Imaskar, though Knights Penitent chapters exist in most
       of the major cities of Faerun.
       Selection is rigorous and deadly. This is to prevent criminals
       simply seeking an escape from justice from joining. Of those who
       volunteer, only one in five survive to induction.
       Upon volunteering, the Knight Penitent hopeful will dedicate his
       life to the god with whom he seeks forgiveness, and tattoo the
       holy symbol of this god onto his face. This forever marks the
       volunteer as a Knight Penitent, and should he die during
       selection, his dedication will be considered fulfilled.
       Upon induction, the knight will have crafted for himself arms
       and armor, with which he promises to shield the innocent from
       darkness and destroy evil wherever he should find it. Knights
       take a vow of celibacy, and are only allowed to be without their
       arms and armor when they are bathing.
       The Knights Penitent answer directly to the Blessed Conclave.
