The Reign of Death
By: Duncan Seastove Date: April 15, 2015, 1:08 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Exhausted from wandering through the Labyrinth of Ragh Chattari
with no hint of escape, our intrepid adventurers, Asmundr,
Lyrina and Geoffrey huddle in a corner of one of the labyrinths
many dark rooms to sleep. Though you all fear what could come
upon you in the night, as sleep takes you, you are overtaken by
feelings of serenity.
You each awaken with memories of a dream of a shrunken and
kindly old man, guiding you out of your subterranean prison. In
the dream, he lead you to the very first room, the one with the
portal, and opened for you the secret door which you had
previously passed over. Following his instructions, you find a
long stairway leading to the surface.
As your eyes adjust to the blazing sun, you find yourself
standing in a great stone plaza. You feel a warm, dry breeze
blow against your skin, and all around you you can hear the
cries of birds. The smell of stone baking in the sun is a
welcome change from the odors of the depths. Arrayed around you
are six stone statues of small, humanoid figures in armor, armed
with spears. Looking back to where you came from, you see that
you've passed out of a intricately decorated archway leading
down into the labyrinth. The decorations portray humanoid
figures fighting what look like demons, giants, and perhaps
dragons.

Past the statues, you can see great spires and domes of a city,
though here and there are stands of unfamiliar trees in the
cities midst. Directly in front of you, down a long stone
causeway, you can see the most massive tree you've ever seen:
you guess it could be taller than some of the mountains you've
seen, and thicker around than any sailing vessel or castle.
Despite knowing you've never seen anything quite like this, you
can't help but feel a sense of familiarity and calm while gazing
upon the tree.

*What sort of rest did we take? You might want to refresh our
memories of what that type of rest restores as well*
Asmudr gazes around, trying to absorb the surroundings, feeling
the wind, smelling the air.

*You took a short rest, meaning you slept or were otherwise idle
for eight hours. This means that you regain 1/4 of your total
hit dice. In addition, if you have a healing kit, you may expend
any number of hit dice to heal yourself.*
Gazing around, it strikes you that the plaza you're standing in
is remarkably flat, and that the causeway leading to the great
tree is straighter than any you've ever seen. Here and there,
grasses and small shrubs are poking out of cracks in the stone,
and you notice also a rut that leads from the archway you just
came out of towards the great tree.
The breeze is warm, and slightly humid, and smells of plants and
stone. There are a few wispy clouds in the sky, and the sun is
very near the zenith, so you'd guess it can't be much past
midday. Somewhere, past the sounds of birds and rustling leaves,
you think you hear the persistent, rhythmic sound of waves.
Here and there, you see signs of recent habitation— a few scorch
marks on the ground or piles of charcoal mark where campfires
may have been made, but for the most part you get the sense that
this place has been without its population for a long time.

Asmundr sees his companions laying next to hm, "I have faint
memories of escaping that labrynth, but perhaps I have been ill
or exhausted, I cant quite make out our exit. This seems to be
our proper destintion, unless Im still under some sort of spell,
this looks to be Ragh Chattari." Asmunr looks around to see what
building seems to house the labrynth.

From the numerous stairs you climbed to exit the labyrinth, you
would guess that it is located beneath the plaza in which you
currently stand.

Lyrina's blinking intensifies due to the relatively bright sun
as she looks around at the domes and the stone walk way.
"Huh, I don't really remember how we got here, but thank the
Gods we got out of there alive."
She takes another look at the domes and racks her brain to see
if they really are in Ragh Chattari.

If it's not Ragh Chattari, it's definitely some other ancient
Lilty city. Judging by the weather and vegetation, however,
you'd guess that you definitely are where you had hoped to be.

*Was I unconscious when we took this short rest or can I use
healing surges?*
"Well, companions, are we ready to try finishing out our
mission, or do we need more time to reconnoiter in the ruins of
this city? I don't figure that we'd put up too much of a fight
if we went out to face the wilds of the Southernlands in our
current condition. If this is in fact Ragh Chattari that we've
ended up in, then much haste isn't needed anyways, right?"

*You can use healing surges, if you have a medicine kit. You
can, however, use them to regain spell slots without the use of
a medicine kit.*

Despite the heat, Geoffrey keeps his cloak around him.
"I suggest we use this daylight to look around."
Geoffrey steps up onto the side of one of the stone pillars to
get a better look at the horizon.
"...I wonder where we really are..." he says to himself.
*Survival check to determine the latitude of our present
location*
d20+wis mod + proficiency -> take 10+3+3 = 16
After looking around he takes out a map.
