As you enter the main hall, you see Shepard seated in his chair,
his face in his hands. He turns to you as you approach, and
says, "An orc horde has attacked Helgabal (which you know to be
the capital of Damara). They were repulsed, but little remains
of the defenders, and even less of the city. King Yarin himself
was slain in the battle, and the few survivors have fled to
Bloodstone Pass." He sighs a heavy sigh, and then continues,
"Even more troubling, however, is that the orcs did not spend
their entire strength. A significant portion of their host
continued to north, to what fell purpose we can only guess." He
pauses in contemplation, smiles weakly, and then says, "At least
now there won't be as many at the monastery. If you still want
to speak with the Damaran messenger, I've put him up in the
Adventure's End."

"North sir? The orcs march on Vaasa? I have some... business to
attend to at the Adventurer's End besides, I think that will be
my next stop." Amundr begins walking away in deep thought and
then turns around, "Sir, these orcs don't seem to be the berserk
hordes we're used to, are they?"

"I think you've got something there Asmundr. These orc seem to
have much more organization and strategy then normal." Lyrina
adds as she shuffles along

"No, not Vaasa. Bloodstone Pass and the Galena Mountains still
hold the borders of Vaasa secure. These orcs marched north along
the Icelace river, towards the Great Glacier, if reports are to
be believed. But you're right, this is more than just wild
pillaging. These orcs march with a purpose, and orcs with a
purpose are fearsome creatures indeed." He stands, and begins
walking towards the entrance to one of the palace's towers. "I
have much thinking to do. But come see me before you depart, so
I can understand your intentions."
Exiting the palace, you can see that the crowd that had gathered
around the Thunderdome has dispersed, the only evidence of the
event a dark red stain on the sandy floor. The day has gotten
darker, and you can only assume this means that somewhere behind
the swollen clouds the sun is setting. People now mingle near
the edges of buildings, where various merchants have erected
stalls. You see some jugglers performing on the western edge of
the plaza, and an old bearded man in a robe speaking to a crowd
on the eastern edge. Continuing on towards the tavern, you pass
into the narrow, crowded lane. There are several carts making
their way towards you, presumably to the docks, and many more
common folk going about various errands. Buards are stationed at
regular intervals, and you notice a few on the roofs of
buildings as well.
Entering the tavern, you see fewer people than you might expect
for this time of day. The few guests that are present are seated
well away from the central cook-fire, and each are nursing large
mugs of some beverage or another. The whole place smells of
sweat, smoke, and roasted fish.
"Hey, Asmundr!" Mary Ironarm shouts from behind the bar. "I
dunno if the crowd is in the mood for your antics tonight, but
I've had some pretty girls come a lookin for ya."

"I heard. Was it the Bjornsen dames? How are they doing, did Fia
(I think she was the older, more attractive one?) get my
letter?"

"I gave her the letter myself. I offered to read it to her, but
she said her sister knew her letters so she took it home. Though
I haven't seen them for some time. Like as not their doin
everythin they can to keep their flock from starvin, what with
this blight." She sighs, and pushes a loose bit of hair out of
her face. "No, these girls were not from 'round here, not even
from Grand Halen. They were lookin for you though, said you had
been with their father when he died. Some sailor or somethin, if
I remember it true."

"Ah yes, they must have been the Swift girls, yes? Were any of
them very handsome would you say? Are they still in town?"
"

Mary smirks and says, "Might have been, though they ranged
widely in age. One or two of them were around your age or older,
while another was no older than my little one. But you should go
see for yourself— after staying here a couple days, they
purchased a house in the Garden Quarter (which you know to be a
rather upscale part of town)." She hands you a folded piece of
paper. "They left me a little map so you'd know where to find
them."

Before Asmundr departed the Palace, Geoffrey followed the party
into the hall with Shepard, considers for a moment, and rather
casually states "I have little business left in town; I will use
this opportunity to help plan our infiltration. I may have no
personal stake in the success of this mission, but I do not
believe it is time for all of you, your King, or your country to
return to the Stars." He turns around as if to return to the
library, pauses looking over his shoulder and finishes saying
"if you desire to speak to your King again we dare not fail" and
quickly leaves the hall.

Asmundr raises an eyebrow upon hearing of the girls but quickly
sterns up and asks, "Mary, there is a Damaran taking up a room
here yes? Can you point him out to me?"
