"ENOUGH, BOTH OF YOU!" Shepard roars, crumpling the paper you
handed him in his fist. "I don't trust him either, Asmundr, but
now is not the time for impropriety. He has been helpful to us,
and right now we need all of the help we can get."
He seats himself, wearily, and flattens out the paper on his
thigh. "Now, as for this... I asked you if you had found the
prince. You have not. You have found where he was headed over a
month ago, according to this piece of paper, which the King of
Cormyr will have no reason to believe. I fear it's all too
little, and far too late. While you've been gone, Cormyr has
marched its armies around the Thunder Peaks and sacked Highmoon.
King Delphinius and much of the senior nobility there are now
being held for ransom, and our embassy there, the Adamantite
Tower, has been destroyed. Maybe if this paper can be believed,
and the prince found, Cormyr can be placated. But as it stands,
your mission was hardly a success."
"You certainly found some interesting treasures, and even more
interesting company." He looks over at the Lilty, the android,
and the pixie. "If only money or ancient knowledge could solve
our woes." He wipes the sweat from his face, and then continues.
"I admit, this chunk of platinum will help. There is a blight
upon our crops, and its causing famine in many of the provinces.
We're going to have to start buying grain from Nathlan.
Bardertown is managing only because of the fish we bring in, but
Calaunt has almost nothing after sending relief to Narfell."
"I sent two adventuring parties, five each, to guard those
supplies and investigate the demons in Dunwood. Those three that
I just dismissed are all that's left. Now I get word that total
war as erupted between the Turmish and Chessenta, there's Civil
War in Calimshan, and on top of all of that, it seems we threw
in on the wrong side of the Impilturian matter— House Burgundy
has recognized the legitimacy of House Witburn's supposed Oswynn
heir, and have thrown in with them."
"And now you come to me with a smile on your face and a
scribbled note in your hand and say, 'Mission accomplished!'"

"Sir, times may be dim, truly we have seen this on our costly
       mission, but a dim light doesn't mean a setting sun. Mightn't a
rising sun shine just as dim?" Asmundr raises his voice and
begins addressing his companions in the hall, "Would you choke a
flame so long before it has forged it's sword? Would you cull a
crop nigh Midsummer's day!? Halen is a rising sun surely! Our
mission, nay, our vital rhythm: to show the world our radiance!
WHAT HO! The gods have presented us occasion to shape the face
of Faerun, to confirm our brilliance to the world! Not to hide
in the dark! Let us seize this moment, " Asmundr looks back
toward Shepard, "Let us ride out our Adventurers as we did in
the days of old! Let the finest of Grand Halen be known to those
who would challenge us! Let us renew the age of Rognvaldr,
Lurtz, Moogran, B'ef Cal, Brutalitops, the days when our
founders commanded the tides of fortune! Such stock that Grand
Halen holds is squandered if left to walk the city streets on
patrol! LET US SHINE FORTHWITH, and cast out the shadows that
       hold our lands!!"

A smile flashes across Shepard's face, and he leans forward to
speak. "You're right, Asmundr. There is yet hope for this young
nation. I would like nothing more than to send forth our
adventuring parties, but after the attack, and especially after
her father, King Delphinius was captured, Lady Chrysyres refuses
to release them, for fear of our comatose king." He pauses a
while, and glances at the monks standing before him. "However,
if what these monks tell me is to be believed, he may not be
comatose much longer. Master Monk, please tell these people what
       you told me."
One of the monks, a thin, bald, Nathlanese man with a wispy
white beard and wrapped in a white robe, bows to Shepard and
then speaks, in a low, gentle voice, which nonetheless seems to
fill the great hall. "As you say. We monks are of the Porcelain
Monastery. We spend our days meditating, in order to access a
higher plane of being. It is the plane of dreams, the place our
mind goes when it is left to wander in sleep. It was here that I
discovered your King. But not simply a shade of him... No, this
was your king, his true soul, somehow pulled into this place."
He pauses and strokes his beard. "As it is, we cannot help him,
since we can only access this realm for brief moments. However,
there is a place, far to the south, in the ruins of an ancient
empire—" he smiles and points now to the Lilty, "his ancient
empire— where resides a tree that may permit access to this
realm. We have read of it in our ancient teachings, but we are
but humble monks, and could not hope to survive such a perilous
journey. Stout adventurers such as you, however..."
Shepard cuts in: "This is why I called you three here." He
points to Lyrina, Geoffrey and Hoss, "Your mission is to seek
out this tree, and see if you can't revive our king. And while
finding the Prince of Cormyr may be important, I would feel
better if you three," pointing to Gasputin, Asmundr, and Aliss,
"Assist in this most important mission."

Geoffrey smiles, slightly impressed by Asmund's speech. "Hope
       still exists I see."
Field of Lore: Elven - have I heard of such trees. Perhaps it is
Fey in origin, or during a trance Elves also enter this realm?

*You have heard of such trees— they are more well known in the
south. They are said to be massive things, stretching many
hundreds of feet into the air, and it is said that any that
encounter them feel an energy as if the tree were inspecting
       them.*

Geoffrey turns to the Monk. "I have heard of such trees, my
people tell tales about them. I would even possibly be able to
recognize one should we come across it. But the journey South is
dangerous and indirect, it could take months even for scouts who
       know the way..."

"Indeed," Shepard says, now standing from his chair and walking
down to the floor. "Even with our fastest ship, it would take a
month just to get there, assuming no delays. Which with you lot
is probably not a safe assumption. However, these monks believe
that the effects of whatever you accomplish there could be felt
       here by Rognvaldr immediately."

"Ah yes! A journey worthy of a grand hymn! Has Arnulf revealed
anything about this tree's nature or location? He's the
adventurous type, will he be joining us?" Asmundr continues,
"... and what of the Denerim situation, are we sending out
parties to find the Prince? Will we take a side in the ongoing
       war?"
"Blacky," Asmundr addresses Geoffrey, "Where exactly are you
from that you know of this type of being? Surely the Underdark
       doesn't have tree, does it?"

"Hard as it may to believe, I was born under an open sky. Not
all of my people worship spiders and live underground." Geoffrey
coughs. "I have even explored the southern coasts of Dambrath as
       a youngling... but I digress"
Geoffrey turns to face Shepard. "I understand that desperate
times may call for desperate measures. Have we truly considered
       all of our options?"

Arnulf, the Lilty, steps forward at the mention of his name.
"Aye, I know of the place of which the Master Monk speaks. Ragh
Chattari, one of the greatest cities of the ancient Lilty
empire. Its ruins still stand pristine on the southern edge of
what you call the Lake of Steam. I believe the tree he is
referring to is one of our ancients— as you know, my species is
rather... Plant like. And towards the end of our lives, we
become more lethargic, and eventually take root, living the rest
of our days as a venerable Ancient, what would appear to you as
a massive tree. Though I would like nothing more to see the
ancestral seat of my people's power, I have other duties to
attend to. I cannot come with you."
When he sees the Lilty bow himself out of the conversation,
Shepard continues. "We have precious few resources to commit to
a war, not nearly enough to stand against the might of Cormyr.
It seems our best option still is to try and find the Prince so
we can settle this matter. I shall do what I can to find someone
to take up your mission. As for options..." Shepard scratches at
his beard, and then says, "There may be a way to shorten this
journey... You recovered a portal key from the Monastery of the
Yellow Rose. Gimon has been hard at work mapping the locations
of known portals it might connect to, and if I recall correctly,
there may be one that places you closer to this... Ragh
Chattari. Of course, to use such a thing, you would have to
enter the Monastery itself, no small task considering it is
       currently infested with orcs."
