Re: Prologue - The Brawling Bear

Shin has been sat at a table unobtrusively watching what has
been happening.
He walks up to the bar and says the the bar keep (whom he hasn't
bothered to learn the name of) "I'll take a cheap room for the
night! Did I hear you say there is work on the notice board?"
Whilst Shin is standing at the bar he glances at each of the
sailors and each of the other people sat at the bar. Taking his
time and judging each in turn with indifference and disdaine.

In barges Conga, a heavyset Dwarf, his Chainmail and shield
covered in dark, old blood, almost hiding the symbol of Moradin,
his beard matted and smelly, obviously having been away from
clean running water for several tenday or more. "A round of
drinks for everyone" he barks towards the barkeep, oblivious or
indifferent to what may be an altercation brewing at the bar.
"And keep them coming until I tell you to stop! "And meat, bring
me some meat!" Conga shambles towards the bar, and rather
impatiently awaits the tavern keeper to tend to his needs,
knocking a couple of stools over en route. He is obviously
familiar with this tavern, or perhaps just taverns in general.
It is apparent to all that this dwarf expects the world, or at
least, this tavern to cater to his needs. After 15 seconds or
so, Conga glares at the barkeep, only now realizing that
something is wrong, and demands that whatever shenanigans may be
in progress be suspended, until he's had his meat and mead. He
repeatedly lifts his heavy fist, bringing it down sharply upon
the table DEMANDING service.

The trip from the last town to this...location has been long,
tiresome, and hard on both Mikaela and me. My poor little
ol'Mikaela, her hooves must be surely sore by now...
I'm going side by side to her. Sharing the load of one of the
side saddles over my shoulder: stouth sword and sturdy shield
over the other.
We finally reach our destination. The so called tavern mentioned
by the old man on the road might not exactly be how he remembers
it... "But if The Light wills it" I murmur under my breath,
sighing at the sight of the building.
I turn myself to look the old mule to the eye "Wait for me here
Mikaela" I say removing the other side saddle and throwing over
my should. "Humph! I'll look for a place to spend the night".
Leaving my trusty mule tied at the entrance of the drinking hole
I help myself in.
The appearance of the place is not exactly relieving, the
atmosphere is dense and heavy, packed with the filt of people,
the spiciness of a warm meal and the numbing door of mead.
Just as I approach the bar to ask for a room (If there happen to
be any) and stabling for my companion I witness the beginning of
a tavern brawl... Except it involves a molested and outnumbered
girl... That doesn't seem like a lady on distress! Her killing
intent is clear and the steel on her hand swift!
(Well, can't blame'er, I ain't no damsel either! Yet it ain't no
reason to kill somebody!)
Dropping the heavy load I try to hurry to stop the quarrel
before it evolves further with regretful consequences.
"LET'S ALL OF US CALM DOWN!" I say loudly "NO NEED FOR MORE
BLOODSHED! Ain't there enough for every body at that Pit? Do you
really've to go look for it somewher'else?!"
< I'd like to roll persuasion on that to calm every one down, at
least the NPC's >

As Forhrlit flashed her rapier forth, the look on Benzel's face
went from confident to terrorised. He barely felt the cold steel
entering his neck, but he did feel the warm blood gushing from
the wound. Pressing his hands on it, the sailor to his left
shouted something. Benzel couldn't hear it. Forhrlit's rapier
(in sneak attack): Critical hit. (2d6+3)x2 = 22.
Juleka's attempt to calm things down had come too late. The
barkeeper was unable to take his eyes off Benzel.
"You finally met your fate, pig. Miss, you owe me one. Get rid
of his corpse and wash the blood. Everybody else, I heard a
dwarf offer you a round."
As he spoke, he walked to the left of the bar, towards Conga,
and pulled up twelve tankards, beginning to fill them. His face
was completely indifferent, as if that sort of violence took
place weekly. He paid no attention to Juleka, and only then
understood that Shin was talking to him.
"I'm sorry, halfling sir, what did you want?"

Shin turns towards this man who had overlooked him and says in a
low voice barely more than a whisper "I will say this only one
more time, a room for the night I'll be paying 2 silver no more
& the jobs you mentioned are on that board correct?" He then
turns to the Rapier wielding woman and simply says "Not bad"

Forhrlit reaches back and ,with a dark-light fading from her
eyes, she pulls her hood back over her pink, wizard-touched
hair, steps over the body of Benzel, careful to avoid the blood,
picks up the dropped mug, eyes Shin and Julkea with a somewhat
blank expression and places the mug on the bar.
"I'm sorry Mr. T'boch... I should go maybe?" She sheaths her
Rapier after wiping it clean on Benzel's shirt and looks at
T'boch with a deep worry on her face. Then she looks at the
other two sailors then back to the barkeep.

Too swiftly to even react everything was over.
A strike too true to even hold a hope of saving the victim from
the dead: a life was taken in front of me and I had been unable
to do anything.
Emotions waved over me. Anger, sadness, self-punishment,
helplessness.
(I failed life...I failed the light. One thing is to kill in
self-defence an other radically different to kill an unarmed
man)
"Hey you-!"
Fuelled my by the anger at my own failure I raise my voice
against the girl...only to stop myself over my tracks. There was
something on the eyes of the girl that told that I had seen a
victim kill another one.
(Maybe this is who the light guided me to. The one that needs my
help the most)
I drop my belongings (well locked and protected) on the eye
sight of the barkeeper.
Walk directly at the girl and pick up the body.
"It seems to me that you're in trouble" I stress the trouble
word to denote I'm referring to something beyond what happened
here. My face serious and stern, maybe even a little accusatory
"need some help?" I finish my offer with my warmest smile, to
show my good intentions.
(This life was lost not due to my fault. It was a sacrifice made
to The Light so I could help this person.) then referring to the
body ( Thank you kind soul, your life won't be lost in vain. I
have a feeling this person has an important future...that true
arm will save one-a-many lives!)
< are we allowed to interact with each other???>

Forhrlit quickly shifts her gaze from T'bloch to Julkea. The
sudden concern this person is showing takes Forhrlit aback.
Somewhat confused she says to Julkea in a small voice, "H-Help?
... what, I...he grabbed me. I'm just passing through, I..".
Forhrlit takes a few steps back, feeling like she is in the
spotlight.
She wonders: Has news traveled this fast? No, it can't be but
this situation has big trouble written all over it. She looks
back to T'bloch realizing that dashing back into the night may
not be the best choice this time. "I could use one of those
drinks...." she says.

"Fine" I say reasuring "I'm never the one not to take on
somebody else's generosity. Help me out with giving this fella'
a proper last rite. I'm sure his friend would thank the gesture"
I say eyeing the other 2 sailors to help and not complain <
using persuasion via body language >
"Name's Juleka, Juleka Forester" I say with a warm and confident
grin

"And the meat?" " where is the meat?" Conga downs the ale in
front of him, and grabs the next nearest tankard, which was
sitting in front of one of the 2 sailors, and proceeds to drain
the 2nd drink of the night, wondering as to what this round of
drinks is going to cost him. And what the sailor must have done
to upset the pink haired lass.
