My View On Drugs

I feel to write about this because in my reality it has been a
divisive issue that has caused me many problems.
Growing up in Scotland I was like the majority of people here
and alcohol was the drug I was most familiar with. It was all
around me. There weren't any alcoholics in my family but
everything seemed to revolve around drink. When you had a get
together you drank, any celebrations involved alcohol and it was
the main way to socialise. It was the same with my friends.
The first time I went to a cafe to socialise I must have been
about 22 and it probably would've been Starbucks. That was
because the person I was involved with then came from a cafe
culture. For me that was a new experience because nobody I knew
went to cafes, it was always the pub.
I had a few years, after leaving school, where I went out
drinking regularly and had some fun but by my early 20s it was
no longer much fun for me. I just didn't enjoy the whole
experience but I continued to drink at home. The first time I
tried cannabis I was 22 in Amsterdam. I knew straight away it
was much more suited to me but I continued drinking until my
mum's death in 2007. After that I rarely drank, just now and
again, and then for a long time you could say my main drug was
coffee. I avoided pubs and did all my socialising in cafes.
Along the way, from my final years in school onwards, I always
seemed to attract guys who loved to drink in an unbalanced way
and quite often these guys weren't really interested in anything
else. They just loved to drink but couldn't really handle it.
I could never understand why I attracted such guys since alcohol
wasn't a big deal to me.
It really started to become a problem for me after I returned to
Edinburgh from Europe in 2014. My experience of playing on the
streets from 2016 onwards was often spoiled by drunk guys being
a menace and ruining the vibe. It also happened with some
people close to me. It got so extreme that it completely put me
off alcohol and so I would deny myself a drink now and again
because of the trouble it seemed to bring around me.
Its difficult to talk about this sort of thing in a place like
Scotland because most people are so defensive about alcohol.
Even those who can handle it don't like any criticism of it and
yet for me the truth has been it has not been a drug that fits
in well with my vibe and what I'm about.
I'm not anti-alcohol, in fact, in my opinion ALL drugs should be
legal. My view has always been that everybody should be free to
put in their body whatever substance they wish and do as they
please, but the moment they cross the boundary of invading my
personal space and causing problems for me it is not acceptable.
At that point I do not want to have anything to do with them
and I will walk away if necessary, no matter who it is.
What I have found is alcohol rarely works with the Truth vibes.
Even those who can handle it normally tend to get silly and ruin
the vibe when they are drinking so I don't like to be around
people who drink whilst I'm playing Music or having discussions
about Truth. Its fine when all agree on a night drinking on an
odd occasion but generally speaking it is not something I like
to be around much.
Recently I came across Frank Zappa's views on drugs and although
not into his music, I agree with a lot of what he expressed
about this issue. If you can take any drug and still be a
reasonable human, still be enjoyable to be around then no
problem. Otherwise its best to avoid.
