This paper is a must-read: it is incredibly approachable,
written in language and a style very much aimed at laypersons as
well as clinicians and researchers.

The most important thing to note is that what we are
experiencing now with SARS-CoV-2 is not new: in fact, that's in
the name. This is the second SARS pandemic -- and the first one
apparently also resulted in many people experiencing long-term
health effects leading to some degree of disability.
Why this has not been more widely reported and openly discussed,
I am at a loss to understand. I am extremely grateful that the
author of this paper chose to share the knowledge he has and the
data he has retained, for, as he notes,
"I regret that we were not able to get the funding and resources
to publish the data from the entire Long SARS rehab program and
I suspect that most of that data has now been lost." (emphasis
mine)
