Former Charlotte council member Tiawana Brown to be sentenced
for COVID loan fraud scheme on sep 22 2026
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Former Charlotte City Council member
Tiawana Brown will be sentenced this month on federal charges
connected to a COVID-19 relief fraud scheme, according to court
records.
Brown’s sentencing was scheduled to take place in a Charlotte
court room on Monday, Sept. 22, court records show.
She pleaded guilty in January 2025 to one count of wire fraud
conspiracy after prosecutors charged her with falsely obtaining
COVID-era business loans for personal expenses -- including
$15,000 spent on a birthday party for herself.
Brown initially faced two wire fraud charges when she was
indicted in May 2025.
