SUMMARY - Two Maryland residents are being monitored for
potential hantavirus exposure, according to the Maryland
Department of Health. Health officials said the Maryland
residents were on a flight that included a passenger from the
M/V Hondius cruise ship who was infected with hantavirus.
NOTE - The article does not state if the residents are
symptomatic.

KING COUNTY, Washington. — Three King County residents have been
identified as potentially exposed to hantavirus, though none
have tested positive for the virus or are currently exhibiting
symptoms.

SUMMARY - A French woman infected in the deadly hantavirus
outbreak on a cruise ship is critically ill and being treated
with an artificial lung, a doctor at the Paris hospital caring
for the sickened passenger said Tuesday (2026-05-12). The
outbreak has now reached 11 total reported cases, nine of which
have been confirmed.

SUMMARY - A possible "generation three" hantavirus case has
emerged, as an Italian citizen, on a Dutch flight with an
infected woman has now developed symptoms and has been placed in
quarantine. A "generation three" case occurs when secondary
patients (in the case of MV Hondius situation, infected people
who were not on the ship) infect additional individuals.
NOTE - It is very important to note that it is not known if this
Italian citizen has hantavirus; Just that they are symptomatic.
If they are a "generation three" case, it would be the first
confirmed "generation three" case which would signal that the
hantavirus is spreading more widely than anticipated.

SUMMARY - The state of Kansas (country: United States of
America) is monitoring three people who were exposed to a person
who later tested positive for Andes (person-to-person)
hantavirus. That person was on the MV Hondius cruise ship. The
people are, so far, not symptomatic.
NOTE - These three people would be considered "generation two"
infected if they do become infected with the hantavirus, as per
the prior article.

SUMMARY - Two residents from the state of Georgia (country:
United States) are being isolated and monitored following their
ordeal on the MV Hondius. One has tested negative for the virus
despite being symptomatic.
NOTE - These would be "Generation One" cases if they evolved to
that. The status of the second person is not known.

Canada’s chief medical officer of health says 26 people across
the country are being contacted by public health authorities to
monitor for hantavirus symptoms, though they are deemed “low
risk.”
