Why I Mask during a 'lull' / Points to Ponder by Masked Man

I will refer to two kinds of studies for a moment .. there are
theoretical studies(based on hard knowledge and facts) and then
there are practical studies (applied studies based on practical
and know how and based on experience) Studies can contain both
and often there is a mixture of theoretical (things to know) and
practical (things to do) within a study...
...this particular study of masking is geared more on practical
studies which leans towards the "how to do" something based on
       experience kind of study....
I have masked for over six years now outdoors, in public and in
all extremes of weather. I feel inclined to share what I have
learned and what I think might help others from my personal
masking studies and observations of what has helped me. I hope
you find my ideas of some benefit to your wellbeing...
Why I Mask during a 'lull' / Points to Ponder by Masked Man
Very simple answer is: I mask to maintain that 'lull' in
viruses. I mask because I have been masking for over six years
and maintained a 'lull' or rather void in human/animal to human
       viruses personally.
Basically it's infinitely easier to master wearing a mask when
times are good and you aren't sick than when you are sick. When
you are sick usually nothing feels good especially if you wind
up suffering long term repercussions of illnesses or diseases.
It might seem counterintuitive to some people but I argue the
best time to mask is when things are good and when you don't
have a virus. What better time that to learn to mask while
conditions are good? Are you feeling good? Wanna stay that way
then learn to mask now while you got it good. (By the way, when
a 'lull' in viruses is reported by nature it lags in time...
its' always reported a week or so sometimes years behind the
present actual time.) To me masking when you are relatively
healthy or at your best is the perfect time! To me that's the
whole point of masking is for health and to stay healthy.
Masking is a good investment. Your going to get jumped by
another slew of airborne illnesses and airborne diseases so in
my experience you might as well learn to fight now when you
don't have to and learn to defend yourself with a mask while you
can and while you are in good enough condition. The idea is to
maintain your personal "lull" in viruses by mastering the art of
       using a mask.
As with anything, rehearse and practice using a mask to stay
sharp and so that when the real thing comes along you will be
perfectly fine and not catch anything! I mask because airborne
illnesses and airborne diseases can carry long term
repercussions. Once I got into the habit of masking its just
that much easier to mask when things are good to maintain that
good for me. I find it easy to make masking a positive
experience probably because I am never sick and wear the mask
doing fun activities and not just during challenging times.
Its something to keep in mind when things are good. To me its
easiest to learn masking when you aren't being forced to. Its
easiest to learn to mask and train yourself when you are already
at your healthiest and feeling good. Its easy to take a brisk
walk or simply go at your pace in a mask or while you do outdoor
work in your yard... lots of allergies going on anyway...
in this thread, feel free to reply and substantiate my idea with
your own or other studies that indicate that masking is smart to
learn when there is a 'lull' in viruses. It is easier and much
more comfortable to me to prevent airborne illness and airborne
viruses and to mask while you don't have a virus and aren't sick
       :)
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is a proverb
coined by Benjamin Franklin in 1736, emphasizing that it is
easier to stop a problem from happening than to fix the damage
       afterward. It advises proactive measures,

P.S. It is not my intention to give medical advice but rather to
be informative and educational as I have over six years of
       successful masking experience.
I'll share and example: today it seemed like a hot day.. it
would be easy to say "Oh its hot out.. let's not do anything"
but I decided to say "It's hot out.. perfect time to test my
abilities and stress test my mask. I might have to pick up my
vegetables this week in my mask on my bicycle so I've got to
stay sharp.. I think I can handle a masked Sunday bike ride
today for a little while.. and so I ended up on a masked bicycle
ride a lot longer than I suspected because it was kid of fun. I
rode through edge of town near a park connects to bikeway. There
is something about virus 'lulls' that always seem kind of
precarious.. its seems like there's a sort of blitz of people
and gatherings during these low virus times which probably
backfires on maskless people. I'm just of the mind to stay
masked during a 'lull' in viruses if you want that 'lull' to
       continue personally.
On my masked bicycle Sunday ride there were scores of people
gassing up their cars, eating together filling parking lots of
shopping centers and tons of blankets on the lawn of the park
nearly touching each other full of crowds picnicking.. It looked
uncomfortable from my perspective and I think I had the better
time zipping past them all on my masked bicycle ride. All I'm
saying is insofar as a perfect day goes mine was just as good as
the maskless if not better. I didn't spend a dime on gas..
didn't waste money eating out and simply didn't have to deal
with loud obnoxious people in a line or at a gathering like a
       pack of sardines together...
..I had a mask on but put suntan lotion on my shoulders and
simply cruised around on my mountain bicycle .. now I'm safe
back home, drank some good water, just ate a nice fresh salad
from a local farm, and getting ready to edit a music video
performance I did on my guitar in my room recently.. I couldn't
ask for a better day even though I live a masked way of life. :)
Later. My loved one might go for a masked walk up the road and
back or we might dance in the living room and she might play
around on some electric bass guitar. Instead of going out we
       play music instruments at home.
I'd have to say fun is what you make it...we probably have a
lot more fun than all the maskless people in the cars at the
edge of town.. they simply didn't look comfortable, healthy or
happy as I zipped by them in my mask on my bicycle. My loved one
and I wear masks outside our home but instead of eating out and
'going out', we stay at home.. when I got home from my bike ride
I ate a fresh veggies from a local farm, a hunk of cheese, and
some granola cereal and milk and home cooked meals and we own
much instruments.. we know how to have fun without the travel
expense and mumbo jumbo of frivolous gatherings. Ive never
understood people that have to spend money and have to have be a
part of social events in order to have a good time.
For the same cost of going out a few times a family could
instead buy some reasonable priced music instruments , learn to
play, and actually have fun at home being creative and yet
safe.. It doesn't look fun to me all that running around at
Disney land or going maskless all shoulder to shoulder in lines
eating at the same trough in a crowded areas or packed together
like sardines on a cruise ship.
       NOTE:
       By the way,
As of April 12, 2026, the United States is experiencing a
transition period where major winter respiratory viruses are
declining, but it is not a complete lull, as some illnesses are
lingering later than usual..For instance currently: Influenza B
activity varies by region, RSV activity has been higher than
expected for April, particularly affecting children under 4,
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is circulating at high levels,
which is typical for its peak in mid-April.
