Cambodia reports first human H5N1 case of 2026
Published on February 14, 2026
A man in Cambodia has tested positive for H5N1 bird flu in the
country’s first confirmed human case of 2026, according to
health officials. The patient has since recovered.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Health confirmed the case on Saturday,
identifying the patient as a 30-year-old man from Meanrith
village in Kampot Province. The region is located in
southwestern Cambodia near the border with Vietnam.
The man developed a fever, cough, and abdominal pain before
testing positive for avian influenza A(H5N1). He received
treatment and was allowed to return home on Saturday, according
to the ministry.
The suspected source of the infection was a dead chicken found
at the patient’s home. The bird was reportedly cooked
approximately three days before the man began showing symptoms,
health officials said.

Seventh Human Case of H10N3 Detected
February 12, 2026
Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection (CHP) reported two new
human cases of H9N2 avian influenza infection from mainland
China, with symptom onset in late December 2025 and mid-January
2026.

A 35-year-old farmer with suspected symptoms of the Avian
Influenza was admitted to the isolation ward of the Government
District Hospital here on Tuesday.

The farmer identified as Prasad is from Yadamarri mandal of
Chittoor district. The Hospital sources said that the farmer
came to the hospital as an outpatient, with high fever, cough,
and irritated eyes. He was later shifted to the isolation ward.
Samples were collected and sent for advanced tests to confirm
whether the case was bird flu or not, sources added. However,
the medical officer said that there was no need for any panic.
With the onset of the summer season, the prevalence of the virus
would naturally be diminished among the birds, and the chances
of acquiring the virus from bird to man are very remote, the
medical officer added

COMMENT: Gotta ask how are hospitals going to immediately
distinguish somebody that has avian influenza from influenza B
that is going on right now? Will the doctors and nurses as well
as people in waiting rooms have their masks on while doing
these tests or visiting on somebody that haphazardly at random
just enters a hospital with avian flu?
How can exposure to someone who might have avian flu with all
these sick & dead birds and influenza B that is currently going
on at same time everywhere not be of "public concern"? All Ive
been hearing about is how hospitals are easing there mask
ordinances(Feb 19, 2026) so how is that going to prevent someone
with avian flu from infecting others in the waiting room or
prevent avian flu amongst hospital staff when such occurrences
happen?
In many of the latest Avian outbreaks cases We are being advised
to mask when exposing ourselves to sick or dead birds. I can't
help but think we should mask around sick people and places like
healthcare environments as well while all these masses of birds
are dying. I am a mere layperson on the subject but Seems to me
it would be hard to distinguish cases of influenza B from Avian
Influenza for those of us concerned about zoonotic diseases and
spillover.
Sometimes I think healthcare facilities mistake themselves as
being part of the general public.. healthcare is not "the
public" Healthcare hosts incoming people who are ill, sick or
have injuries or other maladies. So when newscasters or health
officials say "it is not of the public concern, in reality,
that doesn't apply to healthcare facilities. I'm not sure
healthcare facilities realize that. The chances of somebody
entering a hospital with avian bird flu are pretty high.. where
else they gonna go? What I am saying is healthcare minimizing
this risk (the zoonotic spillover human to human avian flu
everybody fears) by masking and taking precautions? While
Hospitals and health officials are telling everybody not to
touch or breathe in the sick dead birds I'm simply asking people
not to touch or breathe in the sick humans as well...
Masking for zoonotic spillover is my idea...Its certainly not
being mentioned in the mainstream news... I might be the first
one to ever consider masking to prevent zoonotic spillover of
diseases and its human-human transmission so it doesn't
facilitate its dissemination among the human population..I
dunno...just food for thought and for those of us truly
concerned about zoonotic spillover and the ability of a viral
species to be transmitted by direct contact (human-human
transmission) facilitatating its dissemination among the human
population.
Here's the flaw in healthcare a farmer or veterinarian or
someone working close to animals gets avian flu doesn't know
it.. doesn't seek help or treatment right away and has some sort
of capability of spreading it human to human .. people who have
had no contact with animals somehow having avian flu then going
around even to the hospital creating more sickness. That's why I
don't understand healthcare that does away with masking mandates
during avian flu season and all seasons for that matter.
Considering we are all in the animal kingdom, I don't understand
why many health experts and health officials would have us mask
for sick birds and other animals and not mask for one another
during a time when masses of animals are sick suffering and then
dead?
...I can't speak for others but my loved one and I are animals
and we are certainly are masking for our health, .. the numbers
of dead fowl are astronomical in New Jersey , Pennsylvania...the
world over right now
I'm not playing chicken with avian flu.
I'm masking for health and for life!,

Cambodia reports 2nd human case of bird flu in 2026

PHNOM PENH, March 15 (Xinhua) -- A 45-year-old woman from far
northwest Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province had been
confirmed positive for H5N1 human avian influenza, becoming the
second case of this year, the Ministry of Health said in a
statement on Sunday.
The victim, living in Ropak village of Preah Netr Preah
district, was confirmed positive for the virus by the National
Institute of Public Health on Saturday.
Investigations revealed that the patient raised chickens and
ducks, and some of her poultry fell ill and died. She tested
positive for H5N1 three days after having direct contact with
the dead poultry, the ministry said in a statement.
Health authorities are looking into the source of the infection
and are examining any suspected cases or people who have been in
contact with the victim in order to prevent an outbreak in the
community, the statement said.

First imported human case of influenza A(H9N2) infection in the
EU

A human case of avian influenza A(H9N2) infection in a returning
traveller from a non-European country where the virus has
previously been identified in birds, has been reported in the
Lombardy region of Italy. This is the first human case of avian
influenza A(H9N2) reported in the EU/EEA.
The patient has co-existing medical conditions and is currently
in hospital isolation, receiving medical treatment. Italian
public health authorities performed contact tracing as a
precaution to identify and control possible onward transmission
and initiated several epidemiological and microbiological
investigations.

"The Italian Ministry of Health has confirmed Europe’s first
human case of low-pathogenicity avian influenza A(H9N2), in a
person from the Lombardy region.
The patient is hospitalized, and was described as being in poor
health prior to infection. The patient also came from a
non-European country, but it is not clear if he or she was an
Italian traveler or a foreign visitor to Italy.
People can contract H9N2 through direct exposure to infected
poultry or via contaminated animal environments. Human-to-human
transmission has yet to be reported, and human cases typically
result in mild illness..."

Cambodia Reports Third H5N1 Case This Year as Resurgent Virus

"PHNOM PENH — Cambodia has confirmed a new human case of H5N1 in
a three-year-old boy in Oddar Meanchey, the country’s third
infection this year, as health officials warn the virus is
evolving and spreading in ways that raise the risk of further
spillover to humans from poultry.
The Health Ministry said on March 31 that the boy, from Tomnup
Thmei village in Banteay Ampil district, tested positive on
March 29 following analysis by the National Institute of Public
Health.
He had reportedly been playing around his family’s poultry farm,
where chickens and ducks had fallen sick and died in the days
before his diagnosis. He is now hospitalized and receiving
treatment."

Taiwan CDC: Human Infection with a Novel H7 Avian Virus

Taiwan's first detection of a locally acquired human H7 LPAI
infection in a poultry farmer.
While the patient raises poultry, none of his birds have tested
positive for the H7 virus. Movement of his birds has been
halted, however, and agricultural authorities are now expanding
their testing to nearby farms.
The source of this man's infection remains under investigation
"...He developed symptoms of runny nose, cough, and body aches
on March 20th and sought medical attention at a hospital on
March 22nd due to fever. He was admitted to the hospital on the
same day.
Imaging examination revealed pneumonia. Based on clinical
symptoms, test results, and the patient's contact history, the
doctor reported the case as a novel H7 avian influenza..."

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control on
Thursday reported the country’s first domestic case of novel H7
avian influenza, involving a poultry worker in his 70s in
Changhua.

the same day..." I can't help but comment that seems like how it
all goes down... people get sick for a couple days before
medical measures are taken.. that's just the nature of the beast
when it comes to viruses...that two day window of opportunity
for a virus almost seems inevitable.
Anyway I can see it now so many farmers so many workers
worldwide: That two days of them coming down with symptoms is
probably the average contagious time and exposure so if this
thing ever jumps human to human that's the way it will probably
go down.
Keep in mind the birds don't have to show symptoms.. (these fowl
don't have to show symptoms of illness to spread avian virus)
... so now you got farmers and workers maybe not masking around
what they think are perfectly healthy chickens who might be just
beginning to spread the virus behaving perfectly healthy
unbeknownst to unsuspecting farmers and workers....
What isn't told enough to people..
"chickens can be infected with avian influenza (bird flu)
without showing any symptoms, particularly with Low
Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (LPAI) strains. These birds can
still shed the virus, spreading it to other birds, or it may
suddenly transition to a more severe form."
Just the idea that some farmers, workers, veterinarians, people
into animal husbandry might be saying amongst themselves that
they aren't going to mask or use eye protection, or take extra
measures in advance to prevent airborne illness and airborne
diseases until they see that their flock or herd of animals are
actually showing signs of sickness or illness seems very
presumptuous and precarious to me. To me. That's just why
viruses are so successful... they get at least a two day
opportunity and lead to spread without anybody knowing or
suspecting.
Yet another way these cases are often downplayed is the mention
that the patient may have weakened immune symptoms or underlying
medical problems... ..That just makes it worse for
everybody!...We shouldn't be relieved that the patient of of
bird flu probably just had a weakened immune system because now
the virus just has all the more opportunity to evolve more into
a human to human worldwide pandemic. Some viruses don't just
kill off the weak, they feed off opportunity, evolve and mutate
which is all the more reason we should protect those susceptible
to viruses.. because what goes around comes around.

P.S.
Again I must address the clauses and little remarks within so
many articles about how these are simply isolated cases and the
public need not be concerned... I can't stand it when articles
indicate we shouldn't be publicly concerned... what's the point
of the news if it isn't of public concern? Of course we should
be publicly concerned. Of course we want notification of these
events so that those of us who want to can act or modify our
behavior in advance so we can be strategic and seek means of
preventative measures such as masking. The whole point of
knowing or being informed is as to empower us in that we can
modify our behavior or adapt. Avian flu has practically taken
some species off the map.. yeah each and every human case of
avian flu is highly concerning! These creatures aren't walking
around with warning labels on them. Avian flu has destroyed and
devastated so many species , flocks and herds that this is
serious. Not to disappoint the fatalists out there but It would
be highly insensitive, downright suspicious, and incredulous for
the public to not be concerned. Any living breathing thing would
but tremble at the sheer numbers and masses of fallen creatures
before us.
But don't take my word for it ...simply study the following data
to get an inkling of the sheer ever growing yet incomplete
number and magnitude avian flu has reigned thus far:

.. The press has no right telling you how to feel or if you
should be concerned in the face of all these dead animals ..
public health officials have no right telling us whether to be
concerned because the cases of these dead creatures and the
sheer volume of death speaks for themselves. think about how
many creatures have passed away... nobody can even count that
high in their heads ...You are as are as free as a bird in
regards to care & concerns... Don't let anybody tell you whether
or not you should be concerned about vast numbers of creatures
dying with disease before you...argue with those facts and
figures and then you the public decide whether to take care or
be concerned or not.
My mask is on and I believe have resources in some sense and the
inner strength to help and be supourtive of other maskers..
That's all I know.
I am an animal lover and so I am publicly concerned enough to go
out on a line and suggest n95 masks as a great tool for health
and to help prevent airborne illness and airborne diseases.. and
I extend my invitation to farmers, animal husbandry workers, and
veterinarians and animal service people to mask to lessen the
risks of zoonotic diseases and believe we have much to learn.

UK: Bird flu identified at Lincs duck farm.
"H5N1 HPAI has been confirmed in a commercial duck breeding
flock at a premises near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. A 3km
Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone was declared around
the site on 11 April."
