The Cross River State Government reported a new case of COVID-19
on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, announced this
at a news conference in Calabar, the state capital.
According to Ayuk, the first reported case of the outbreak
involved a Chinese national who worked with Lafarge and flew
into the country on March 17 before falling ill. He stated that
the Chinese’s condition became worse at the medical facility in
his office, and he was taken to the University of Calabar
Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
Although he stated that there had been silent infections and
clear cases from time to time.
“But we are determined that for every ailment, every disease or
outbreak, if it is identified here in the state, there should be
no alarm.
“The state will do well in terms of surveillance or containment
of an outbreak. Whatever it is, we will do our best to contain
it. So, there is no alarm.
“When this case was reported about three or four days ago, we
decided to be careful to confirm and ensure that the processes
involved in identifying and confirming every case of COVID-19
are duly followed."

Jasper County Courthouse closed following outbreak of COVID-19
(South Carolina, USA)
May 6, 2026
"RIDGELAND — Social media posts coming out of Jasper County
during the afternoon of May 6 look like they belong back in 2020
or 2021.
One post from Keith Horton, the county’s clerk of court, stated
that the Jasper County Courthouse is closed until further notice
due to a “significant number of employees testing positive for
COVID-19.”
Reached by phone, Laura Malphrus, the county’s chief deputy
clerk of court, confirmed the closure and its cause, stating
that several employees tested positive for the virus earlier in
the day May 6. She did not disclose the exact number of
employees who tested positive.
The courthouse is scheduled to be disinfected on May 7 and due
to the chemicals used in that process employees were advised
that the courthouse would not reopen until May 11, Malphrus
added."

COMMENT: I have been masking since Covid presented itself around
2020 so As usual today, I wore my mask throughout my 6 mile
bicycle roundtrip to safely pick up my box of vegetables at
Local Women's Agricultural Center.. I'm in North Carolina just a
state away from South Carolina.
I highly recommend the n95 mask to help prevent airborne illness
and airborne disease, This outbreak in Jasper county court could
be the beginning of more to come all over the country for all I
know... I wouldn't make light of it...you never know.. I
recommend masking to be on the safe side personally.
Speaking for myself, Ive been masking since 2020 so I continue
to mask because of my success with not catching covid (and that
includes not catching long covid which to me is huge problem
that can carry longterm health even lifetime consequences ) or
anything for that matter..Why fix what's not broken? my mask has
worked ..all I know is I hear a lot of people complain about
their health and things aren't looking so hot while I never got
sick and have been wearing a mask...so masking worked and works
for me,
The Masked Man
P.S. Yet another thing to be wary of is something like a
butterfly effect.. imagine if you will a whole lot of people
catching covid because they assume cases are 'milder' or that
covid is more like a 'cold' or that the initial infection of
catching covid isn't a big deal ...an attitude like that could
actually lead to more widespread covid which in turn even if
'mild' could lead to many more long covid cases .. these are
just things to consider. I wear a mask to prevent long covid
just as much as I do to prevent covid. The long term
repercussions of covid are extremely dangerous as seen in many
long covid studies such as these:
