SOURCES THAT THE BANGLADESH STRAIN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RECENT
NIPAH OUTBREAKS 2026
In 2026, scientific and public health reports confirm that
recent
Nipah virus (NiV) outbreaks in both Bangladesh and the
neighboring Indian state of West Bengal are caused by the
Bangladesh strain (NiV-BD).
This strain is distinct from the Malaysia strain (NiV-MY) and is
characterized by a higher case fatality rate and more frequent
human-to-human transmission.
Key Evidence & Sources for the 2026 Outbreaks
Genomic Confirmation (NiV-BD): The National Centre for
Disease Control (NCDC) reported in January 2026 that
phylogenetic analysis of recent cases in West Bengal and
Bangladesh shows they belong to the NiV-Bangladesh clade. These
sequences are 96.15% similar to historical Bangladesh strains.
West Bengal, India (January 2026): On January 26, 2026, the
World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed two cases in West
Bengal involving healthcare workers. This region is ecologically
linked to Bangladesh and historically prone to the Bangladesh
strain rather than the South Indian (Kerala) variant.
Bangladesh Seasonal & Off-Season Outbreaks (2025–2026):
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and
Research (IEDCR) reported four fatal cases in 2025 across
multiple districts (Bhola, Faridpur, Naogaon, Rajbari), all
caused by the same virulent Bangladesh lineage.
In January 2026, the IEDCR warned that the virus is no
longer strictly seasonal, as evidenced by an August 2025 case in
Naogaon.
Transmission Pathways: Studies in NIH-PMC published in early
2026 link these cases to raw date palm sap consumption and,
increasingly, fruits partially eaten by Pteropus medius bats,
the primary reservoir for the Bangladesh strain.
FURTHER STUDIES OF RESEARCH:
Based on reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and
Indian health authorities, the Nipah virus (NiV) outbreak in
West Bengal, India, in January 2026 is linked to a strain
similar to that found in Bangladesh
. The evidence is rooted in the geographic, ecological, and
genetic,, characteristics of the virus circulating in the
region.
Evidence Linking the Outbreak to the Bangladesh Strain
Geographic and Ecological Proximity: The 2026 outbreak
occurred in Barasat, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal,
India, a region directly adjacent to Bangladesh. Bangladesh
experiences nearly annual Nipah outbreaks. Both regions share
the same ecological niche, including the Pteropus genus of fruit
bats, which act as the reservoir for the Bangladesh strain of
the virus.
Strain Characterization: Previous and ongoing studies have
identified that Nipah virus outbreaks in this region, including
West Bengal, are driven by the Bangladesh strain, which is known
for its high pathogenicity (71-84% fatality rate).
Genomic Similarities: While specific 2026 genomic data may
be pending, the 2025 Bangladesh outbreaks and previous cases in
India have confirmed that the circulating virus in this region
falls into distinct, highly virulent clusters (NiV-BD 1 and
NiV-BD 2). The 2026 cases were confirmed via RT-PCR and ELISA at
the National Institute of Virology in Pune, which routinely
analyzes these, and the clinical presentation (severe
respiratory and neurological illness) matches the profile of the
Bangladesh strain.
Transmission Patterns: The 2026 West Bengal outbreak (two
cases in health workers) and the 2025 Bangladesh cases (four
fatalities) both highlight the transmission dynamics
characteristic of the Bangladesh strain: high-risk, direct
person-to-person spread in, or after contact with, healthcare
settings.
2026 Outbreak Context
As of January 27, 2026, two cases were confirmed in a 20-30 year
old nurse duo in West Bengal, originating from symptoms in late
December 2025. Both cases were linked to a single hospital
setting, indicating a contained, local outbreak. While the
Bangladesh strain is associated with consumption of raw date
palm sap, the 2026 Indian cases appeared to be transmitted
within a healthcare environment
NOTE TO THE PUBLIC:
There occurred 2 laboratory-confirmed cases of Nipah virus
infection in West Bengal in January 2026. Both patients were
25-year-old nurses employed at the same private hospital in
Barasat and developed neurologic complications after symptom
onset in late December 2025. This prompted worldwide public
concern & social attention ...
...In light of this, thus far, as of Feb 1st 2026, almost all
public media reports and public officials fail to report to the
public the particular Nipah strain type and appear to be
assuming and relaying the symptoms and transmission rate and
details of the less dangerous Malaysia strain rather than
acknowledging it is Bangladesh strain which can transmit itself
person-to-person via respiratory droplets and has 70% to 100%
fatality rate.
"The Bangladesh strain of the Nipah virus (NiV-B) is considered
more transmittable between humans than the Malaysia strain
(NiV-M), and it is associated with higher mortality rates (often
over 70%). While NiV-M caused outbreaks through intermediate pig
hosts, NiV-B frequently transmits directly from fruit bats to
humans and from person-to-person via respiratory droplets and
contaminated surfaces".
Take care,
The Masked Man

Again, in reference to the two nurses with Nipah virus in
Bangladesh, I keep researching what Nipah virus strain it is
just for the record and it doesn't match up with what the
general public is being told by public health officials.. public
health officials clearly aren't telling the press or public what
strain of Nipah virus it actually is ...
I ask AI to research what strain of Nipah virus the two nurses
got in Bangladesh, and AI research says:
it is the Bangladesh strain (NiV-B) which is clearly more
dangerous than public health organizations are reporting .. the
Bangladesh strain (NiV-B)transmits human to human (through air
droplets) and 70% to 100% fatality rate (All the health
organizations seem to be writing this Nipah virus off as not
being human to human transmittable and they seem to be
pretending it is the NiV-Malaysia (NiV-M saying the fatality
rate isn't as high)
"is the nipah virus the NiV-Bangladesh (NiV-B) 2026?"
AI answers "Yes,
Nipah virus (NiV) is the virus involved in the ongoing
outbreaks, and the specific strain identified in the 2026 West
Bengal outbreak is indeed the Bangladesh strain (NiV-B).
Key Facts About the 2026 Outbreak
Location: The current 2026 cases were detected in West
Bengal, India, specifically in the Barasat region.
Strain Confirmation: Laboratory confirmation has identified
this as the NiV-Bangladesh (NiV-B) strain, which is known to be
more virulent than the Malaysian strain (NiV-M).
Confirmed Cases: As of late January 2026, there have been
two laboratory-confirmed cases—both healthcare workers at a
private hospital—notified to the World Health Organization
(WHO).
Transmission: While the cases in West Bengal are linked to
each other, the broader NiV-B strain in this region is typically
associated with human-to-human transmission and the consumption
of raw date palm sap contaminated by fruit bats.
Status: Over 190 contacts have been tested and found
negative, and authorities currently assess the risk of
widespread international spread as low.
Comparison of NiV Strains:
Feature: NiV-Bangladesh (NiV-B) NiV-Malaysia
(NiV-M)
Fatality Rate: High (~70% or more) Lower (~40%)
Transmission
Frequent: human-to-human Primarily
animal-to-human
Respiratory
Symptoms: More prevalent Less
common"
My question is why can't public health organizations and health
officials simply go public with what strain the Nipah virus is
we are currently dealing with? Why don't they just declare
whether it is the NiV-Bangladesh (NiV-B) strain or the
NiV-Malaysia (NiV-M) strain? Surely they know? Why don't public
health organizations and public officials publicly state which
strain it is if they know so much?
The Masked Man wants to know!

Nipah Virus Case Confirmed in Northwestern Bangladesh
February 7, 2026
he Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh, in
collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO),
announced today a laboratory-confirmed case of Nipah virus (NiV)
infection in the Rajshahi Division of northwestern Bangladesh.
As of February 3, 2026, a middle-aged woman from Naogaon
District had been experiencing symptoms including fever,
headache, muscle cramps, loss of appetite, weakness, and
vomiting since late January 2026, when the NiV infection was
confirmed. The patient had no travel history outside the area
but reported repeatedly consuming raw date palm sap in early
January 2026, a known transmission route for the virus due to
contamination from fruit bats.

Nipah horror returns: WHO confirms death of a woman in
Bangladesh
Just Earth News | @justearthnews | 06 Feb 2026
A person has died from a Nipah virus (NiV) infection in
Bangladesh, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on
Friday.
The deceased was a woman aged between 40 and 50 years who lived
in Naogaon District in the Rajshahi Division.
According to the WHO, she developed symptoms consistent with
Nipah virus infection on January 21, including fever, headache,
muscle cramps, loss of appetite (anorexia), weakness and
vomiting. Her condition later worsened, with hypersalivation,
disorientation and convulsions.
“On 27 January, she became unconscious and was referred by a
local physician to a tertiary hospital,” the WHO said. She was
admitted with suspected Nipah infection, and samples including
throat swabs and blood were collected by the surveillance team.
She died the same day.
The WHO said the patient had reported repeatedly consuming raw
date palm sap between January 5 and 20, 2026 — a known risk
factor for Nipah transmission in Bangladesh.
Following laboratory confirmation, an outbreak investigation
team, including One Health stakeholders, launched a probe on
January 30.
“A total of 35 contact persons has been identified,
including three household contacts, 14 community contacts and 18
hospital contacts. Samples were collected from six symptomatic
contact persons, including three from household, two from
communities and one from hospital,” the WHO said.

COMMENT: Again I see no identification or specification as to
which strain of Nipah it actually is .."The Bangladesh strain of
the Nipah virus (NiV-B) is considered more transmittable between
humans than the Malaysia strain (NiV-M), and it is associated
with higher mortality rates (often over 70%). While NiV-M caused
outbreaks through intermediate pig hosts, NiV-B frequently
transmits directly from fruit bats to humans and from
person-to-person via respiratory droplets and contaminated

My question remains:
My question is why can't public health organizations and health
officials simply go public with what strain the Nipah virus is
we are currently dealing with? Why don't they just declare
whether it is the NiV-Bangladesh (NiV-B) strain or the
NiV-Malaysia (NiV-M) strain? Surely they know? Why don't public
health organizations and public officials publicly state which
strain it is if they know so much?
So far as I know research on the Nipah virus says its got to to
be the Maylasia strain or the Bangladesh strain..so which one is
it?
At least this particular article admits it can spread human to
human(I quote the article): "Human-to-human transmission has
also been documented". That leads me to think the person writing
the article is aware that so far. at least to my limited
knowledge, the Bangladesh strain is the only strain discovered
to date that is capable of human to human transmission through
respiratory air droplets. Also the Bangladesh strain kills 75%
to 100% its victims which is omitted in the article. Also this
Nipah virus seemed to occur in part of Bangladesh making me
speculate that it it might very well be the Bangladesh strain. I
guess they should do an autopsy to find out?

In regards to what strain of Nipah virus killed The woman age
between 40 and 50 years on January 27 2026 who lived in Naogaon
District in the Rajshahi Division...
According to AI overview:
"Yes, recent cases of Nipah virus (NiV) in Naogaon District,
Rajshahi Division, involve the
Nipah virus Bangladesh strain (NiV-BD). A 2026 confirmed fatal
case and previous outbreaks (such as in 2003) in this area were
identified as the NiV-BD strain, which is known for higher rates
of human-to-human transmission compared to the Malaysian strain.
2026 Case: A 40-50 year-old female in Naogaon District died
on January 28, 2026, from a laboratory-confirmed Nipah virus
infection.
Strain Type: Outbreaks in Bangladesh, including Naogaon, are
consistently identified as the NiV-BD strain."
COMMENT:
I find it upsetting that
The WHO,
The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA), whoever else is closely
monitoring the case, and other health agencies that disclose
information to the public about diseases that they can't seem
to disclose this strain publicly and that yet AI is telling me
what strain it is... I don't understand that.. The health
agencies need to to declare what strain it is or that they don't
know what strain it is and educate us in the matter of Nipah
strains. If they are withholding this Nipah strain info for some
reason.. it makes a difference ..more people might wear masks
and protect themselves knowing it transmits human to human if
indeed it is the Bangladesh strain...
