Millions of eggs recalled over salmonella fears

Check the eggs in your refrigerator.
Health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of
“salmonella enteritidis” infections linked to eggs, prompting a
massive recall.
According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration recall alert,
Midwest Poultry Services L.P., based in Indiana, is voluntarily
recalling nearly 1.6 million cartons of eggs, or about 19
million eggs because of potential salmonella.
Seventeen states, including Michigan, have reported illnesses,
the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC), says.

SUMMARY:
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating three new
outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. The outbreaks involve the
Cyclospora parasite, Salmonella and Listeria.
July 23, 2026
...The outbreak apparently is not part of a larger 34-state
Cyclospora outbreak being investigated by the FDA and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention....
...For the new outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections, the
FDA is reporting 106 confirmed patients. The agency is not
reporting the patients’ ages or where they live. The FDA has
begun traceback efforts but is not reporting what food it is
tracing....
...For the new outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections,
the FDA is reporting eight confirmed patients. The agency is not
reporting the patients’ ages or where they live. The FDA has
begun traceback and onsite inspections but is not reporting what
food is being traced or what location is being inspected...
...In other news, the FDA is reporting that the patient count
for another Cyclospora outbreak has increased from eight to 10
patients. The agency is not reporting the patients’ ages or
where they live. The FDA has begun traceback efforts but is not
reporting what food it is tracing. The agency first reported the
outbreak on July 8.
For outbreaks of Salmonella Oranienburg and Salmonella
Enteritidis the patient counts have increased from 69 to 81
patients and from 91 to 96 patients, respectively. The source of
the outbreaks has not been determined.
For the Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak, first reported on July
8, the FDA has begun traceback efforts but has not revealed what
food it is tracing.
For the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections, first
reported June 10, the FDA has initiated traceback, onsite
inspection and testing but it is not reporting what food is
being traced, what location is being inspected, or what is being
tested....

COMMENT:
As layperson, I gather this article is referring to several
investigations that are in initial stages by the FDA. I can only
assume these are FDA cases to be watched to see if the
investigations lead to more Information as it develops. I assume
this article is a summary of the foodborne illness
investigations that are now currently underway being conducted
by the FDA.

Chipotle pulls jalapeños as salmonella outbreak sickens over 100

Chipotle Mexican Grill has removed jalapeños from its
restaurants nationwide after the peppers were linked to a
salmonella outbreak in Minnesota that has sickened more than 100
people.
The move was first reported by Bloomberg, which said the chain
was working with the Minnesota health department on tracking an
outbreak of the foodborne illness. In a statement released Aug.
4, Chipotle confirmed it was cooperating with the public health
investigation and had identified jalapeños from one common lot
as a potential source of contamination.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we proactively removed the
jalapeños from our restaurants and replaced them with product
from different growers," it said. Chipotle did not specify which
grower had provided the removed peppers.
Chipotle likely not the only restaurant impacted
While it was the first restaurant to be named, investigators
believe the spread has impacted other eateries and possibly
other states, as well. In its statement, Chipotle said that the
outbreak was "impacting several food service retailers," while
Medus said it was associated with "Mexican-style quick-service
restaurants."
FDA yet to confirm extent of the outbreak
While Chipotle has not been implicated in the cyclospra outbreak
and is likely not the only chain impacted by the salmonella
cases, it is no stranger to making headlines. In the last
decade, it was named in several outbreaks of salmonella,
norovirus and E. coli, eventually leading to criminal charges
under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act..."

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and state health

A fast-growing, multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Javiana has
been linked to fresh jalapeño peppers served at Chipotle, Qdoba,
and other Mexican-style restaurants. Minnesota and Colorado have
been hit hardest, with about 110 cases each, and the outbreak
now spans 27 states. Federal investigators have traced the
peppers to a single grower in Sinaloa, Mexico and a California
distributor, Coast Citrus Distributors, and the jalapeños have
