CDC scales back Food Pathogen Surveillance Program
By: Steve Date: September 2, 2025, 2:14 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY - The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
has scaled back a federal-state surveillance program called
"FoodNet" for foodborne pathogens. As of July 1 of this year,
Salmonella and Shiga toxin–producing Escherichia coli (STEC)
will have reduced surveillance. Reporting of illnesses caused by
Campylobacter, Cyclospora, Listeria, Shigella, Vibrio, and
       Yersinia is now optional.
COMMENTS - Is dying from Campylobacter, Cyclospora, Listeria,
Shigella, Vibrio, and Yersinia now optional as well? Elections
       have consequences.

that comment "Elections have consequences" echoes much truth...
PBS and NPR for example losing their funding..because of those
elected... I mean that's crazy we are talking "sesame street" a
program that helps children learn to read significantly.. Do we
really want to make children dumber by jeopardizing a station
that helps children to read!? If I am not mistaken Sesame Street
was partially created to help educate and teach inner city kids
how to read. Do we really want to be around a bunch of
       illiterate dumb inner city kids!?
"stations are preparing for budget shortfalls, potential
       layoffs, and program changes"
...then of course funding is cut that monitors diseases viruses
and the safety of the food we eat...
Do we really want to make children dumber by jeopardizing a
station that helps children to read and do we really want to
know if the food we eat will make us sick!?
Its hard to believe such programs are facing cutbacks and lack
of funding they have previously been using to enrich our lives
with educating children and monitoring the safety of what we
eat everyday. There now might be a void in history now of
literate children and data about various food borne illnesses
diseases for awhile. It does have scientific and even has
humanitarian values when we keep tabs on monitoring food born
illnesses. It is considered to be a center for disease control
isn't it? How we gonna control food born illnesses without a
dedicated surveillance program that tracks food born diseases!?
We are facing a world of disadvantaged kids who might not grow
up with the qualities and lessons of Sesame Street, a ton of
educational programing will be missing and there will be a
world of people who can't even keep track of food born
illness/disease patterns throughout the world to save their own
       lives.
       The Masked Man
       P.S
Also I forgot to mention public tv's Sesame Street helps people
with basic math.. people that can't count or have problems with
math aren't as able to do estimates or count things that make a
difference... math even helps with ascertaining risks and
percentages of stuff.. then because certain programs are cut in
the CDC we can't count things that should be counted like
percentage of food born illness.. we can't establish or study
the patterns we don't want to be a part of as well... that's a
lot of facts and figuring that just got thrown out the window
when they cut fundings to PBS, NPR and the CDC ... that's a lot
of missing things which previously served as tools enriching our
lives and making us smart and providing useful knowledge and
       info.
By the way, I happen to like and even cherish programs that
helps us read and count things and programs that help determine
if a bunch of food might kill me or not or might be tainted with
       illness.
