       I googled "AIDS Today"...

Masked Man remembers when AIDS first came about and is simply
posting this to inspire others to think and add posts about AIDS
in this thread if they wish.
I googled "AIDS Today" because thinking about AIDS might help us
think about Covid and other challenges we have today with
viruses... It dawns on me how little I know about AIDS. I don't
hear much about AIDS. However I remember the era quite well. I
was teenager when AIDS came on the scene. I remember when it
first came out. I remember all the stigma people faced talking
about it. There are some parallels between AIDS and Covid in a
       sense...
Covid certainly has been known to affect the immune system of
its victoms and create long term repercussions.
I can't help but compare the diseases a little.
I guess AIDS is not an airborne disease and is typically
transmitted sexually while covid is an airborne disease and also
       mutates variant to variant.
I have many questions.. Are people still dying of AIDS? Do the
treatments work well? How far have we really come in treating
       and curing AIDS?
Here's a few statements I found off the internet:
"What is happening with AIDS today?
Today, there are more than 1.2 million people estimated to be
living with HIV in the U.S. and there are an estimated 31,800
new infections (cases among people who are both diagnosed and
       undiagnosed) in 2022.Aug 16, 2024"
       "How common is AIDS nowadays?
Approximately 88 million people have become infected with HIV
since the start of the epidemic. Today, there are approximately
40 million people currently living with HIV, and tens of
millions of people have died of AIDS-related causes since the
       beginning of the epidemic.Jul 25, 2024"
       "Can AIDS be treated today?
There's no cure for HIV / AIDS . Once you have the infection,
your body can't get rid of it. But there are medicines that can
control HIV and prevent complications. Everyone diagnosed with
HIV should take antiretroviral therapy medicines, also called
       ART.Feb 9, 2024"
"Is the AIDS virus still active?
HIV is still active and continues to reproduce in the body.
People may not have any symptoms or get sick during this phase
but can transmit HIV. People who take HIV treatment as
prescribed may never move into Stage 3 (AIDS). Without HIV
treatment, this stage may last a decade or longer, or may
       progress faster.Jan 14, 2025"
